Predicted Oscar Winners - 2006
The Numbers' annual Oscar polls have proved to be remarkably accurate predictors of
the final results on Oscar night.
We call results based on the hundreds of Numbers readers who vote in our
Predict the Oscars competition.
We've received all the votes now, and are ready to make predictions in all categories.
Percentage figures are the percentage of Numbers readers who believe a movie or performance
will win in a particular category.
They are a rough guide to how likely a particular movie is to win in a category - for
example, we're pretty certain Brokeback Mountain will win Best Picture, while
George Clooney is the favorite, by a hair's breadth, to win Best Actor in a Supporting Role.
Of note this year is how widely the Oscars are likely to be spread.
While Brokeback Mountain starts out a huge favorite for Best Picture (and bring with it Best Director and
Adapted Screenplay), there's a good chance it won't land any acting awards, and our readers
are predicting that the technical awards will be spread far and wide.
In fact, while Brokeback will most likely top the Oscar tally (we're predicting five wins), Crash
and King Kong are both tipped to take three awards each, and a total of nine movies could walk away
with at least one award in the major categories.
