Synopsis

Vince Ferro is a man in desperate circumstances. While on a quick fix-it job, he steals an envelope containing instructions for a mysterious job that promises a potential fortune. He assumes a false identity and follows the instructions, only to find himself a numbered participant in an underworld Russian roulette competition, where gamblers place bets on who'll survive when the trigger is pulled. The stakes are high, but the payout is more than he can resist. Many are competing for the first time, and a precious few have even returned to play again, but are his odds any better than other players in this most deadly game? What will it take to be the last man standing?

DVD and Blu-ray Releases for November 8th, 2011

November 7th, 2011

It's a rather mixed week on the home market. Granted, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2 is coming out this week, but it doesn't make its home market debut till Friday. Also, after the Harry Potter releases, there's a huge drop in quality. Given the issue with the Harry Potter releases, it's best to wait till next year and grab the ultimate editions. I'm not sure there's anything here that rises to the level of Pick of the Week. In the end I went with Captain America: The First Avenger on Blu-ray Combo Pack, even though it didn't come out this week. However, the screener was late and it is the best release on this week's list. More...

Limited Releases Go Completely Crazy

October 28th, 2011

For the second week in a row, there are too many limited releases trying to divide up the limited marketplace. It's not quite as busy as last weekend, but the number of limited releases did hit double-digits, including four opening in dozens of theaters, of two of those for opening in more than 100. Again like last weekend, there are films earning advance buzz, films earning good reviews and films with casts with strong name recognition. However, there are few that have even two of those three. Like Crazy comes the closest to earning all three, while Ra. One could have some crossover success. More...
