Synopsis
When director Loren Goldfarb first noticed Chad “Shorty” McDaniel in a Florida pool hall, he made a quick and completely wrong assumption. The man in the motorized wheelchair, with tiny arms and legs, didn’t look like much of a serious competitor. Then Chad picked up a cue. By the end of a grueling day, he had defeated six opponents and secured a spot in one of the country’s top amateur pool tournaments. Following Chad in the months leading up to the big event and traveling with him out West, 96 lbs. of Dynamite is an intimate portrait of a man from humble beginnings living with brittle bone disease (Osteogenesis Imperfecta) who refuses to be defined by limitation. With a sharp wit, grit and unshakable determination, Chad challenges low expectations and discrimination and the systems stacked against him.
