DVD Releases for March 31st, 2009 - Part I

March 30th, 2009

It's a big list this week with nearly 50 DVDs here (including a few that are late reviews). This includes this year's big Oscar winner, Slumdog Millionaire, which is coming out on DVD and Blu-ray. Also coming out this week is two foreign language thrillers: Tell No One on DVD and Blu-ray, and Timecrimes on DVD. All three are worth picking up. In fact, all three are DVD Picks of the Week. With so many releases, it comes as no surprise that this week's list has to be split into two, with the second part found here. More...

DVD Releases for June 17, 2008

June 16th, 2008

Another busy week, but one that feels loaded with quantity and low on quality. None of the first run releases stand out and there's precious little else to make up. That's not to say there are no DVDs worth buying, as there are. My recommended list includes Burn Notice - Season One - Buy from Amazon, Classe Tous Risques - Criterion Collection - Buy from Amazon, Popeye the Sailor - 1938-1940 - Volume 2 - Buy from Amazon, and Men in Black - Special Edition - Blu-ray - Buy from Amazon, to name more than a few. However, none struck me as qualifiers for DVD Pick of the Week. More...

DVD Rentals - Rambo Fights to the Top

June 10th, 2008

There were more new releases to reach the top 30 on the rental charts, including Rambo, which was the new number one rental with $8.55 million in revenue. However, that was the only new release in the top five. More...

DVD Releases for May 20, 2008

May 20th, 2008

This week's list is dominated by Blu-ray releases. This is not surprising as this is the first week Paramount has released Blu-ray discs after dropping the format last August for an exclusive HD DVD commitment. However, it is another Blu-ray release that caught my eye: the National Treasure Blu-ray Two-Pack. This is the best format has to offer this week, but it is not the best movie coming out. If you want the DVD Pick of the Week, you have to grab Night of the Living Dead Buy from Amazon. More...

4 + 3 + 2 = Number One on Per Theater Chart

January 29th, 2008

4 Months, 3 Weeks, 2 Days may have been snubbed by Oscar, but moviegoers felt differently as it earned more than $50,000 in 2 theaters for an average of $25,856 over the weekend. U2 3D earned a million dollars during its opening, more or less. Less over the weekend, but more since Wednesday. This helped it into second place on the per theater chart with an average of $15,808 in 61 theaters. The final film to top $10,000 was L'Annee Derniere a Marienbad in its second weekend of re-release earning $13,719 in one theater. More...

Movie Website Reviews for Weekend of January 25, 2008

January 26th, 2008

The last week in January isn't a great time to release a movie, and the quality of the sites reflects this. That said, the best of this week's list, Rambo - Official Site - is worthy of recognition and the winner of the Weekly Website Award. More...

Limited Releases Too Late for Oscar

January 25th, 2008

An interesting mix of limited releases includes an Oscar hopeful that missed out, a re-release of a Canadian comedy, and a concert film shot in 3-D. However, actual Oscar contenders will likely dominate the art house circuit. More...

Movie Website Updates for October 7, 2007 - October 13, 2007

October 14th, 2007

Quite a few full sites launched this week, but as is the case most times, there were pretty Spartan at the moment and it will take a few more updates before we can tell if they are award-worthy or not. That said, it was a site for a movie that opens this week, Lars and the Real Girl - Official Site, that won the top prize as it finished adding all the material marked coming soon this week.
