Synopsis
Sicily in the 1960s. Lia is 21 years old, beautiful, headstrong, and reserved, but also self-confident. She prefers working with her father in the fields to helping her mother with the housework. Lorenzo, the son of the village’s mafia-affiliated businessman, is fascinated by her. After an initial flirtation, however, she dares to reject him. He then resorts to brutal violence. According to tradition, she should now marry him, because a “marriage of reparation” would save her “honor.” But Lia does what no one expected: She reports Lorenzo as a rapist and embarks on a personal and legal battle for her self-determination.
