DVD and Blu-ray Releases for August 2nd, 2011

August 2nd, 2011

It's not a particularly strong week on the home market with only two first-run releases of note. Coincidentally, I'm waiting on screeners for both Rio and Soul Surfer. While both are likely worth checking out at the least, the latter's Blu-ray / DVD Combo Pack is the best bet for Pick of the Week. Normally I'd like to wait till the screener arrives before handing out that honor, but there is a pretty big gap between first and second place this time around. More...

Featured Blu-ray review: Spy Kids Trilogy

July 30th, 2011

With the theatrical release of Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World just around the corner, there's no better time to release the original Spy Kids Trilogy on Blu-ray. How well have these three films held up? And are their Blu-ray debuts worth picking up? Or are they just shovelware and a cheap cash grab? More...

Village Leads Limp Box Office

August 31st, 2004

As the summer box office comes to a close, The Village continues to set career best records for M. Night Shyamalan, but it's the sophomore stint drop-offs that the real story. The previously mentioned career best openings were in Belgium, Sweden and Norway totaled $2.6 million, but at the same time saw its U.K. and French numbers cut nearly in half from last weekend. This week it took in a total of $10.2 million in 14 markets, lifting its international total to $30.8 million More...

Arthur, King of the International Box Office

August 24th, 2004

A trio of new openings pushed King Arthur into first place this week with $13 million in 33 markets. The film now sits at $88 million internationally, and should break $100 million by next weekend. Worldwide it looks headed for $200 million. More...

DVD Releases for February 24, 2004

February 23rd, 2004

Every week films get a second chance at success from the home market; or, in some cases, a first chance at success. Here is a list of wide releases, limited releases and a few from the growing TV on DVD section. There was a very eclectic mix the week, but the comedy / heist movie Foolproof - (Buy from Amazon) is my pick of the week. But if you have kids you probably won't go wrong picking up Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over - (Buy from Amazon). More...
