Another week without a marquee first-run release, but that's not surprising given the time of year. There are a few releases that were contenders for DVD Pick of the Week, including two TV on DVD releases: 30 Days - The Complete Second Season - Buy from Amazon and Mad Men - Season One - Buy from Amazon: DVD or Blu-ray. Both are worthy for different reasons, and if I were forced to pick one, I'd probably just flip a coin, so I might as well award them both the DVD Pick of the Week.

Sunshine opened stronger than expected at the weekend, earning close to $250,000 in 10 theaters for an average of $24,296.
This is more than enough to justify expanding over the coming weeks, but a wide release is still not guaranteed.
The only other film to top $10,000 on the per theater chart was Partner with $10,073.

Big list in terms of numbers, not so much in terms of quality. In fact, the best film in terms of updates this week was The Simpsons Movie - Official Site, which has already won the Weekly Website Award. Because of that, there are no new winners this week.

There are a couple of films opening in limited release this weekend that might expand wide, Sunshine and Goya's Ghosts.
If I were to put money on the outcome, I would say Sunshine has the better shot at mainstream success, but both will have a difficult time making it.
