Synopsis

C.C. Baxter knows the way to success in business...it's through the door of his apartment! By providing a perfect hideaway for philandering bosses, the ambitious young employee reaps a series of undeserved promotions. But when Bud lends the key to big boss J.D. Sheldrake, he not only advances his career, but his own love life as well. For Sheldrake's mistress is the lovely Fran Kubelik, elevator girl and angel of Bud's dreams. Convinced that he is the only man for Fran, Bud must make the most important executive decision of his career: lose the girl...or his job.

Contest: Apart from the Crowd

February 17th, 2012

Next weekend, the widest release of the week will be Act of Valor, which is opening in 3000 theaters, going by early estimates. On the other hand, Tyler Perry's Good Deeds is only opening in 2000 theaters, again, going by early estimates. Despite this chasm in theater counts, many expect the latter to top the former by a wide degree at the box office and because of this, we are going to use Tyler Perry's Good Deeds as the target film in this week's Box Office Prediction Contest. In order to win, one must simply predict the opening weekend box office number for Tyler Perry's Good Deeds. Whoever comes the closest to predicting the film's opening 3-day weekend box office (Friday to Sunday), without going over, will win a copy of The Apartment on Blu-ray. Meanwhile, whoever comes the closest to predicting the film's opening 3-day weekend box office (Friday to Sunday), without going under, will win a copy of Manhattan on Blu-ray. Entries must be received by 10 a.m., Pacific Time on Friday to be eligible, so don't delay! More...

As for the best release of the week, that's Lady and the Tramp, which is making its Blu-ray and is our Pick of the Week. More...

Featured Blu-ray Review: The Apartment

February 3rd, 2012

The Apartment came out on Blu-ray a couple weeks ago, maybe. I received an offer to review the Blu-ray, I jumped at the chance, but then the Amazon.com link said, "Sign up to be notified when this item becomes available." However, I got a screener in the mail anyway, so maybe this is just an issue with Amazon, one that they will clear up shortly. In the meantime, how is the movie? And how is its Blu-ray debut.
