DVD Releases for June 24, 2008

June 23rd, 2008

There was a sharp drop-off in the number of releases this week, but while the numbers were down overall, there were several releases that I can enthusiastically recommend: Charlie Bartlett - Buy from Amazon, Definitely, Maybe - Buy from Amazon, Futurama - The Beast with a Billion Backs - Buy from Amazon, The Hammer - Buy from Amazon, and In Bruges - Buy from Amazon. However, while all those movies, and a few others, are worth picking up, the best of the best is Persepolis and either the DVD or the Blu-ray is worthy of the DVD Pick of the Week. More...

Contest - Back to the Wall

June 20th, 2008

We are just seven days away from the most anticipated new release of the month, Wall-E, which is this week's target film. In order to win, one must simply predict the opening weekend box office of Wall-E. Whoever comes the closest to predicting the film's opening 3-day weekend box office (Friday to Sunday), without going over, will win a copy of Bonneville on DVD and a copy of The Lather Effect on DVD. Meanwhile, whoever comes the closest to predicting the film's opening 3-day weekend box office (Friday to Sunday), without going under, will also win a copy of Bonneville on DVD and a copy of The Lather Effect on DVD. Entries must be received by 10 a.m., Pacific Time on Friday to be eligible, so don't delay! More...

March 2nd, 2008

There's a real slump in top-notch sites, but it is still early in the year and no real blockbusters have been released so far. There are a couple of sites on this week's list that are good, but none that are great and none that win the Weekly Website Award. More...

Limited Releases Try not to go Un(fore)seen

February 29th, 2008

The weekend after the Oscars should see some award-winning limited releases expanding, and No Country for Old Men is expanding while The Counterfeiters could be as well (we don't have a theater count for the latter film). However, there is still plenty of room for new limited releases and City of Men could do well in its 75 theaters over the next three days. More...
