Weekend Theater Counts: New Movies Struggle to Find a Venue

It's a tough market for new releases this weekend.
Just Like Heaven remains the widest release in the US in its third weekend in release.
Remarkably, it's picking up another 34 theaters, to go with the 3,509 it's already playing in.
Flightplan keeps it company in very wide release, playing in 3,424 theaters.
Among the new openers, Into the Blue gets a start in 2,789 venues, which isn't bad.
But Serenity and The Greatest Game Ever Played will have to work hard to get high in the top 10, opening as they do in 2,188 and 1,014 theaters respectively.
Dark horse this weekend is A History of Violence, which expands into 1,340 film houses after a very strong debut last weekend.
