Movie Website Updates for February 3 - February 9

February 9, 2006

During the past week promotional websites for several movies were launched and some older ones added additional content. It was the busiest week in more than a month, but there weren't many big launches or massive updates, so it is the slow-growing V For Vendetta - Official Site that earns the Weekly Website Award.

8 Below - Official Site
The games were added to the site, but the link is broken. Also, you can now search for the dogs while you surf the site and if you find all 8 you can download a screensaver.

16 Blocks - Official Site
The synopsis was added, but I'm still waiting for the extras on the site to be added.

300 - Official Site
The second video production journal was added to the site.

Ask the Dust - Official Site
The flash site is up, but after a short intro the only content on the site so far in the synopsis and the production notes.

The Benchwarmers - Official Site
Another flash site that launched this week, this one has more content including a game, but it left me cold. The more I see of this movie, the less I want to see it. That is not to say the site is bad, but I can't tell if it's not selling the movie well because it is poorly done or if the movie is garbage, but I'm leaning towards the latter option.

Brick - Official Site
There are some more news on the site, including a notice that the full site should be up next week.

Clerks 2: The Passion of the Clerks - Official Site
This week there's the clip is called Skidmarks, but it's not as dirty as you think it would be. I for one was disappointed.

Cowboy del Amor - Official Site
The site has a lot of information, but the site doesn't have a very professional feel.

Curious George - Official Site
No real changes since the site won the award, but since it's an award-winning site, it doesn't really need to change.

Date Movie - Official Site
No changes this week, but I had to mention how much I hate that song and how much a dread checking out this site. I hate it so much that I procrastinate doing this column to put off hearing the song for as long as possible.

Dave Chappelle's Block Party - Official Site
The trailer was added to the site, but after watching it I'm not entirely sold on the concept. It's a concert film, which is not a genre known for achieving cinematic or box office greatness.

Don't Come Knocking - Official Site
The trailer is online but not on the site, at least not yet.

Final Destination 3 - Official Site
No real changes in a while

Firewall - Official Site
The Features section was added to the site and it contains contests, promotional material and even a game. I really liked the game, although it could have made interactive items a little more obvious at times. Overall it is a good site, but not so much so that is stands out in a crowded field.

Flushed Away - Official Site
Just a preview so far, but it instantly became one of my most anticipated films of the year.

Game 6 - Official Site
This site has a lot of information, including a rundown of the final few batters of that fateful game. However, I can't get to the trailer, the site freaks out on me. Hopefully that will be fixed soon so I can get a better feel for the site / movie.

Hard Candy - Official Site
Another update this week with most of the regular features added, plus the promise of extra in a section called Experience.

Heart of Gold - Official Site
The site has all the normal features but the only feature that is close to unique is the few clips.

The Hills Have Eyes - Official Site
The site has all the usual features, (some marked coming soon), and a few extras like interviews and a game, (both marked coming soon). The site shows some promise, but the movie seems very stale, even for a remake.

London - Official Site
What I was hoping was a really good placeholder site turned out to be a below average flash site. Its not that there are any really glaring faults here, it just feels really cramped.

Lovewrecked - Official Site
There's no official announcement on the site yet, but the movie was recently picked up for release by Weinstein Co. We should hear about a release date, and possibly a new site, rather soon.

Marie Antoinette - Official Site
Just the trailer so far.

Miami Vice - Official Site
For a site with nothing on it, it sure takes a long time to load.

Mission: Impossible: 3 - Official Site
Some video clips were added to the site including the Superbowl TV Spot.

Nacho Libre - Official Site
The flash site is up, but so far it only has the image gallery, Internet trailer, and some downloads. While I can guarantee more features will be added, none are marked coming soon.

National Lampoon's Pucked - Official Site
The movie opens tomorrow but the only feature not marked coming soon is the synopsis. Sad.

Open Season - Official Site
The placeholder site was redesigned, but the flash site remained the same.

Over the Hedge - Official Site
Just the synopsis, character bios, and the trailer. But there is enough animation that I remain hopeful with regards to the site.

The Pink Panther - Official Site
A music video with Beyonce Knowles was added to the site, but it doesn't really sell the movie well.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest - Official Site
The Superbowl TV Spot was added to the site.

Poseidon - Official Site
Yet another site that added the Superbowl TV Spot. 30-second spots are not the best way to sell a movie so these spots are not a big deal for me.

Running With Scissors - Official Site
The site's gone and now it just takes you to Sony's main movie site. Not a good sign.

See No Evil - Official Site
The image gallery has been added.

The Shaggy Dog - Official Site
Easily the worst of the Superbowl TV Spots that I saw this week. If the film is even half as bad as this comercial made it look, it will be a disaster.

She's the Man - Official Site
The first of two special features were added to the site this week, specifically some character bios. Also, the placeholder text from the image gallery was removed but not replaced like I thought it would be.

Stick It - Official Site
Just a redirect to Touchstone main movie site, which has the trailer.

Through the Fire - Official Site
Just the trailer and the movie opens tomorrow.

Unknown White Male - Official Site
The site has a lot of information and more style than most documentary and after watching the trailer and the other clips, I can't wait to see the movie.

As V For Vendetta - Official Site
promised, the new 'trailer' is up, but it is just the Superbowl TV Spot. However, while that was a disappointment, this week other features were also added including more images and VR tours of two of the sets. Lastly, the first of nine storyboard sections was uploaded. This site has been building slowly for months now, and while no one week has there been a huge update, it has grown into an award-worthy site and is the winner of the revolutionary Weekly Website Award.

Winter Passing - Official Site
A simple site with just the basics, but something tells me that if the site had much more it wouldn't work as well given the nature of the movie.
