Click's Appeal is Universal

Three of the top five renters this week were new releases including the number one film, Click with $11.34 million during its first week of release. X-Men: The Last Stand saw a steep decline down 44% to $5.57 million for the week and $15.59 million during its run. Next up is The Lake House held up much better down just 18% to $4.97 million over the week for a three-week total of $19.05 million. There was a pair of new releases rounding out the top five with Garfield's A Tail of Two Kitties earning fourth with $3.51 million and Waist Deep in fifth with $2.84 million.

A Prairie Home Companion was the best of the rest coming in ninth place with $2.29 million. Next up was a trio of direct-to-DVD releases with The Butterfly Effect 2 taking 16th with $1.33 million, Black Dahlia in 23rd with $820,000 and Save the Last Dance 2 finishing in 27th with $760,000.

In total the rental market earned $125.9 million, exactly what it earned last weekend. However, that was down a huge 14.7% from the same week last year and that puts 2006's lead over 2005 at just 0.7% with $6.1 billion.

Click was also able lead the way on the sales chart with The Little Mermaid - Two-Disc Special Edition remaining in second. X-Men: The Last Stand fell from first to third as the Fanboy Effect taketh away just as it gaveth last week. Waist Deep opened in fourth with Garfield's A Tail of Two Kitties managed fifth. Normally kids movies do better on the sales charts, but in this case the DVD was mediocre and many probably figured there's likely a special edition in the works.

Just missing the top five was The Fox and the Hound - 25th Anniversary Edition in sixth. The next new release was Scrubs - The Complete Fourth Season in tenth place. A Prairie Home Companion and The Butterfly Effect 2 opened in 13th and 14th places respectively.

There was only one new TV on DVD release to chart this week and it was Scrubs - The Complete Fourth Season, which top the charts. Lost - The Complete Second Season remained in second place during the its sixth week of release. Falling from first to third was Stargate SG-1 - Season 9. The final two releases in the top five were both from Grey's Anatomy with The Complete First Season in fourth place and The Complete Second Season - Uncut in fifth.
