New releases dominated both charts on the home market with Employee of the Month taking top spot on the rental charts with just $5.31 million during its first week of release.
Second place went to Gridiron Gang with $5.17 million, but at least the film did better on the sales chart. Crank fell to third place with $5.06 million over the week for a total of $11.16 million after two. The Illusionist had the best week-to-week drop-off in the top twenty down just 13% to $4.86 million and now has $10.45 million in total. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning opened in fifth place with just $4.37 million, which has to be seen as a disappointment, even compared to its weak domestic run.
Way back in 16th place was The Protector with $2.23 million, but while that was a weak start, it was much stronger on the sales chart. The only other new release to chart this week was the direct-to-DVD release, Undisputed II: Last Man Standing with $1.31 million for a 35th place debut.
