No End on the Per Theater Chart

Transformation: The Life & Legacy of Werner Erhard surprised on top of the per theater chart with an impressive $25,460 earned in its lone theater. The overall box office leader, The Simpsons Movie, was in second place with $18,877 while This is England was close behind with $18,430. The political documentary, No End in Sight opened very strongly with more than $30,000 in 2 theaters for an average of $15,767. Finally, The Devil Came on Horseback also topped $10,000 with $11,143 over the weekend and $18,336 since Wednesday.

No other new limited release came close to $10,000 with Arctic Tale coming the closest an average of $5,652; it may expand, but don't expect it to earn much in the way of mainstream success. Molière was very close behind with an average of $5,434 in 6 theaters. The Camden 28 and Laura Smiles both struggled to find audiences, earning $3,428 and $2,065 respectively. Finally, The Sugar Curtain flopped with $582.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a couple Per Theater Chart alumni:

  • Sunshine's first expansion didn't go as planned, but at least it crossed $1 million at the box office.
  • Talk to Me topped $1 million just before last weekend, all will hit $2 million before next weekend.
  • Rescue Dawn hit $2 million over the weekend and nearly reached $3 million as well. It will have no trouble reaching at least two more milestones, but after that it could be a problem.
  • Sicko climbed to $20 million and is now just behind Bowling for Columbine's total box office for fourth place on the all-time non-IMAX documentary chart.
