Clifford the Big Red Dog: Dog Days of Summer - Buy from Amazon

Clifford the Big Red Dog is based on a popular series of books and ran for 65 episodes over three seasons starting in the year 2000. There have been many DVDs releases and the latest, Dog Days of Summer, comes out this Tuesday. So what episodes are included, and is the DVD worth picking up?

The Show

The episodes on this DVD start with...

  1. Special Delivery
Emily asks Clifford to carry a package to the post office, but when he gets there, Cleo gets so excited about the package that she rips it open. Then she starts playing with it. Will Clifford be able to fix this?
  2. Welcome to Birdwell Island
Emily tells Charlie the story of Clifford's arrival on Birdwell Island and how the residents there were more than a little worried about Clifford and how big he was.
  3. Doing the Right Thing
T-Bone is hanging out at the pet store when Mr. Kibble, the owner drops one of the new toys. However, instead of telling Mr. Kibble, T-Bone keeps it for himself. It's a really nice toy, but T-Bone is too guilty to play with it.
  4. The Dog Who Cried Woof
After hearing a story about a giant ghost skunk, both Clifford and T-Bone become really scared. So of course, Cleo takes advantage of the situation by scaring them over and over and over again. There's no way this will backfire, will it?
  5. Jetta's Sweater
Jetta is trying to help Emily look stylish (i.e. she's trying to get Emily to dress the way she does). She can't find a sweater that looks good on Emily, till Emily spots a pink one with flowers. Since it's not her style, Jetta gives it to her. It's only later she remembers that the sweater was given to her by her Grandmother and she really needs it back. However, she doesn't want to admit she wants to take the sweater back, especially after seeing how much Emily likes it, so she tries to get it back indirectly.

The Extras

There are six Speckles shorts, each running 90 seconds long.

The Verdict

Clifford the Big Red Dog: Dog Days of Summer is a little more expensive than many other TV on DVD releases aimed at preschoolers, as it is basically three episodes worth of entertainment. That said, it's not overpriced and if your kids are fans of the show, it is worth picking up. On the other hand, I can't be too enthusiastic with my recommendation.
