The Fresh Beat Band: The Wizard of Song - Buy from Amazon
I've only seen one episode of Fresh Beat Band and that's when I reviewed an unrelated TV on DVD release. It's a TV show about a group of four young adults, Kiki, Marina, Shout, and Twist, who are members of a band. This DVD features the special hour-long special, The Wizard of Song, plus two bonus episodes. Is it a good show that should entertain kids? And is it good value for the money?
There are no extras on the DVD.
The Fresh Beat Band is a fun show and should entertain kids. The Wizard of Song is a good special with some fun guest stars and the overall DVD is good value for the money. I would have liked some extras, perhaps a song or two with lyrics kids can sing with, but for $12, you can't complain about the price.
The Show
As you could probably guess by the name, it's an adaptation of the Wizard of Oz. The film starts with the band practicing for their big gig, but Marina is itching to cut out early. Kiki wants to practice her violin solo more, Shout needs to work on his singing more, while Twist needs to come up with better rhymes. However, all Marina wants are cupcakes. When the cupcake place is sold out, she tries to go somewhere else, but her car is caught in a tornado. When it lands, she's in Oz. There she meets Glinda the Good Witch. Glinda tells Marina that if she wants to get home, she'll need to visit the Wizard of Song, but before Marina can even start on her journey, they are visited by the Bad Witch, who wants the magic shoes that Marina is now wearing. Along the way to the Wizard of Song, Marina meets up with a Scarecrow, Twist, who wants a brain so he can think up rhymes; a Tin Woods-woman, Kiki, who wants a heart so her music till touch people; and Lion, Shout, who suffers from stage fright and needs courage.
The band visits an Old West Ghost Town for a gig. And I don't mean it is an abandoned town, there are people living there. There are also ghosts living there. These ghosts don't like bands coming to town, because they think the town isn't big enough for two bands. Will The Fresh Beat Band get scared off like all of the other bands? Or will they defeat the ghosts?
While the band are practicing, Harper comes in in a panic. He needs to make a lot of pizzas for tonight's show, but he promised to babysit. The band says they can help babysit for him, but they agree before they find out they aren't babies, but chimps. It doesn't take long till they realize they are over their heads. The Extras
