Synopsis

We enter the world of the dixie mafia, from the 1980s to the present. Two parallel narratives telling one larger story: the three decade rise of an Arkansas-based drug kingpin known only as FROG; and the ground-floor criminal careers of two young guys at the bottom of Frog’s present-day operation, Kyle and Swin. They have never even met Frog, but a series of mistakes leads them into a deadly collision course where the only way out is to eliminate Frog and take over or be killed trying to do so.

DEG Watched At Home Chart: Sony Scores Again

May 14th, 2020

Bloodshot

Sony continues to have a good year, given the circumstances. They just chalked up a win on the DEG Watched at Home Chart for the third week in a row. However, this week it was Bloodshot that topped the chart by rocketing up the chart 11 places. Why the massive jump? It debuted on DVD / Blu-ray. We haven’t seen an increase that dramatic since we’ve been tracking this chart; however, this is also a film that was still in theaters when Covid-19 forced it into VOD early, so there’s mitigating circumstances. Elvira: Mistress of the Dark

It’s a sad week for DVDs / Blu-rays as there are no top-notch first-run releases. Gretel and Hansel is the biggest and the best first-run release on this week’s list, but its DVD / Blu-ray don’t have enough extras to be a Pick of the Week contender. Likewise, The Lodge is amazing, but its DVD / Blu-ray have no extras… Is Elvira: Mistress of the Dark really the Pick of the Week? It came out last week, but the screener was late, so it is the best release on this week’s list. More...

VOD Releases: Will Arkansas earn an A on VOD?

May 1st, 2020

Arkansas

This was the week that Black Widow was supposed to open. That level of competition was going to scare away most limited releases, so it was always going to be a slow week. Fortunately, while the quantity is low, the quality is high and there are several films earning strong reviews. In fact, the only films on this week’s list that don’t have overwhelmingly positive reviews are those with no reviews are all opening on Tuesday, so they have time to gain reviews. This does include Arkansas, which is the biggest film on this week’s list, at least based on pre-release buzz. It might not live up to that buzz. More...
