DVD Releases for October 10, 2006

October 10th, 2006

The Thanksgiving long weekend signifies the start of the holiday shopping season... Of course, that's the American Thanksgiving, which occurs sometime in November. The Canadian Thanksgiving, which occurred this weekend, is most closely associated with the start of Hockey season. (Have I mentioned how much I hate the New York Rangers? I have. Good.) However, just because shopping season has officially started, doesn't mean it's a slow week. Far from it. This week there was a bumper crop of contenders for the DVD Pick of the Week. I narrowed the list to two TV on DVD releases (Scrubs - The Complete Fourth Season - Buy from Amazon and Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law - Volume 2 - Buy from Amazon) and two limited releases, (Twelve and Holding - Buy from Amazon and A Prairie Home Companion - Buy from Amazon). If I was forced at gunpoint to choose just one, it would be Scrubs - The Complete Fourth Season - Buy from Amazon, but I can all but guarantee all four, and a few others, will end up in my DVD collection. The Truths about Cars and Averages

June 13th, 2006

Cars not only won the overall box office title, but was one of only two films to top $10,000 on the per theatre charts this weekend earning $15,086. The other film was last week's winner, An Inconvenient Truth, which managed an average of $12,334 in 122 theatres during its third weekend of release. More...

Da Vinci Da Stroys Competition

May 23rd, 2006

First of all, this headline represents the last of my Da Vinic Da puns, I promise. (On a side note, had the movie bombed I would have used Da Vinci Da Saster as the headline. Awful, isn't it?) Moving on... The Da Vinci Code was the only film able to earn more than $10,000 per theatre over the weekend with an incredible $77.1 million in 3,735 for a per theatre average of $20,635. That was more than double the second place film, fellow wide release Over the Hedge, which came close to making the $10,000 club with $9,475. More...

Close Race on Per Theatre Chart Ends with no Real Winner

May 16th, 2006

No films topped $10,000 on the per theatre charts, but there were three films in a very close race at the top of the list. Stolen led the way with $8,829 in its single theatre, while Giuliani Time earned $8,661, also in just one theatre. Easily the widest release of the three was Sketches of Frank Gehry, which played in a grand total of 2 theatres and pulled in an average of $8,620. More...

Shadow's Reinforcements Arrive

It was not a great week when it comes to new websites with most of the really interesting updates coming in the form of new trailers. April 28th, 2006

The first of the new Friday edition Weekly Website Review column is here, but not without a hitch. We had a bit of a power outage early in the day so I did what any modern man would do when faced with the prospects of going without the Internet for an undetermined amount of time, I took a nap. Fortunately, I was mostly done before the power went out so there was no real affect on this week's list, but I am starting to this that this column is cursed. As for the list, its pretty average with the best of the bunch being A Scanner Darkly - Official Site. More...
