DVD and Blu-ray Releases for April, 27th, 2010

April 27th, 2010

After Avatar dominated last week's list, the selection of releases this week is not any better. There are only two first run releases of note, It's Complicated on DVD and The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus on Blu-ray, while there are a few smaller releases that are also worth picking up. To find the Pick of the Week, however, we have to travel back in time as a couple of late releases finally found their way to my desk this week. Those late releases are Defendor (Buy from Amazon: DVD or Buy from Amazon.ca: Blu-ray) and Yesterday Was A Lie (DVD) and they share the Pick of the Week honors. More...

Featured DVD Review: Yesterday Was a Lie

April 24th, 2010

Yesterday Was a Lie was first mentioned on our site in 2005 when it was still in pre-production. It took a while for the film to get made, which is not surprising, as Indie filmmaking is a struggle in the best of circumstances. The final film was shown at a lot of film festivals starting in 2008 and earned a lot of positive reviews. However, it was never able to really earn a theatrical release. For most people, the first chance to see the film will be on the home market. Is it worth hunting down? Or is it a case of a cool concept, but a faulty execution? More...

DVD and Blu-ray Releases for April, 6th, 2010

April 6th, 2010

There is not a single first-run wide release on this week's list. The biggest new release of the week is Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans, which made less than $2 million in theaters. The biggest selling release of the week is the Lord of the Rings - The Theatrical Trilogy on Blu-ray, but the extended edition has already been announced. After those two releases there is practically nothing of interest. In all honesty, many of the releases on this list would have been ignored had this been a busy week. The release I'm looking forward to the most is Yesterday Was A Lie, but the DVD is late, so I don't know if it is merely worth buying or if it is worthy of the Pick of the Week honor. More...

2009 Preview: December

December 1st, 2009

November turned out to be a good month with more films meeting or exceeding expectations that missing. We also saw records broken as 2009 marches closer to the all-time record, and the possibility of becoming the first year to hit $10 billion in total ticket sales growing. It won't need that much to get there, and even if just one or two of the predicted $100 million hits this month get to that milestone, we will still finish the year by breaking records. More...

Movie Website Updates for September 16 - September 22, 2007

September 22nd, 2007

Not a long list this week, but at least we had a clear winner for the Weekly Website Award, Resident Evil: Extinction - Official Site. IN the coming weeks we should see some big sites launch as award season starts to heat up. More...

Movie Website Updates for March 24 - March 30, 2007

March 31st, 2007

Awesome. We are finally getting some major updates to the summer blockbuster movies. The ones people are watching to see if they break records. This includes the first half of the massively interactive website for Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End - Official Site. And while the site isn't done yet, it is still more than enough to win the Weekly Website Award. More...

Movie Website Updates for March 10 - March 16, 2007

March 17th, 2007

We are starting to get some serious updates on the websites for the summer blockbusters, however, it will be a few more weeks before this list is dominated by such films. In the meantime, it is a website for a new release, Dead Silence - Official Site, that is the winner of the Weekly Website Award. More...

Movie Website Updates for March 3 - March 9, 2007

March 10th, 2007

We are starting to see more and more summer blockbusters launching or updating their websites. However, this week it was still a spring release taking top spot as The Fracture - Official Site won the Weekly Website Award. More...

Movie Website Updates for February 17 - February 23, 2007

February 23rd, 2007

Big week in terms of flash sites launching, but a tough one when it comes to picking a winner. There were several sites that were contenders, and a few that will likely be winners after a few more updates, but none that stood out as the best for the week. It's almost like there were so many that were so close to winning the award that none were able to stand out and get me excited. However, there was one site that was updated this week that did, The Simpsons Movie - Official Site. This site did get a new look, but the real draw here is the first full trailer, to go along with the three previous teasers. Is that enough to make it award worthy? No. But while my rational side was distracted by a game of Sudoku the Fanboy in me made that decisions, and all Fanboy freak-outs are legally binding. Hopefully the final site will live up to the award. I have a feeling it will. More...

Movie Website Updates for February 3 - February 9, 2007

February 9th, 2007

Still waiting sites for the big summer blockbusters to come online. In the meantime, this week is relatively busy, but with only a couple sites that look like they could be award-worthy once the features are added. The best of the best, and I use that term loosely, is Norbit - Official Site with a site that could be more entertaining than the movie it promotes. More...
