DVD Sales - Harold and Kumar Escape to the Home Market

August 13th, 2008

New releases dominated the sales chart this week, taking 5 of the top 6 spots. This included the new number one film, Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay, which sold 406,000 units for $9.49 million consumer spending. More...

DVD Releases for August 5, 2008

August 4th, 2008

Another week, another list of lackluster first-run releases. Sadly, there's very little else to back it up. In fact, the only release that was even a contender for DVD Pick of the Week was The Counterfeiters, with both DVD and the Blu-ray worthy of that honor. More...

DVD Releases for July 29, 2008 - Part II

July 29th, 2008

Another slow week without a single first run release that was a must have, or even a contender for DVD Pick of the Week. Granted, many will find Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay worth picking up, but it is not a top-notch release. There are also a couple of special edition releases that are easily worth picking up: Dark City - Director's Cut - Buy from Amazon: DVD or Blu-ray and WarGames - 25th Anniversary Edition. But the best of the best, and the DVD Pick of the Week is Stargate - Continuum - Buy from Amazon: DVD or Blu-ray. But I am also giving an honorable mention to Two Fat Ladies - Buy from Amazon. On a side note, it is another week where we had to split the list into two due to the size. Part I can be found here. More...

DVD Releases for July 22, 2008 - Part II

July 21st, 2008

Wow. Another week without a single first-run release that struck me as worth picking up. This really is the slowest time of the year for DVD releases. That said, there were a number of other releases that caught my attention, including a couple of TV on DVD releases and a couple of classics from Criterion. The latter include Vampyr - Buy from Amazon and High and Low - Buy from Amazon while the former include Robot Chicken - Star Wars - Buy from Amazon and Spaced - The Complete Series - Buy from Amazon. It would be virtually impossible for me to narrow it down to one selection, but Vampyr - Buy from Amazon is the better Criterion release and Spaced - The Complete Series - Buy from Amazon is the better TV on DVD release. As with last week, there were so many spotlight reviews that this week's list had to be split into two. Part One can be found here. More...

April 16th, 2008

The Visitor opened in first place on the Per Theater Chart with an average of $21,622 in 4 theaters, which bodes very well for this Friday's expansion. Young @ Heart scored second place with an average of $12,734 over the weekend and $15,558 from Wednesday to Sunday. The final film in the $10,000 club was Flight of the Red Balloon, which was down 32% to $11,959. The closest film to $10,000 that didn't make was Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour with $8,424, which is that film's best per theater average since its second week of release. 21 on a Winning Streak

April 8th, 2008

It was a softer than expected weekend at the box office, and expectations were no strong to begin with. Overall the box office brought in $95 million, which was down 11% from last year. More importantly, it was down a staggering 23% from the same weekend last year. Even worse, 2008 is now behind 2007's pace $2.24 billion to $2.28 billion. More...

Movie Website Reviews for Weekend of April 4, 2008

April 5th, 2008

Only 11 movies on this week's list, and nearly half of them had no site for the North American release. This made it rather dull reviewing the sites this week, but it did give me a chance to waste an hour or so playing Seashell Shuffle on Nim's Island's Official Site. But despite the addictive nature of that game, the winner of the Weekly Website Award was Leatherheads - Official Site. More...

Head Hopes to Finish on Top

April 3rd, 2008

April starts of with a... with a... well, it starts this week. We have three wide releases this week, but none seem destined for greatness. In fact, it's a limited release that might have the most exciting box office result of the week, even if it doesn't reach the top ten. On the other end, there should at least be a logjam at the top, giving box office watchers something to talk about. More...

More...

Iron Man the Wise Choice to Top Per Theater Chart

May 13th, 2008

Not only did Iron Man remain on top of the weekend box office chart, it also topped the per theater chart with an average of $12,452. The only other film to top $10,000 was Surfwise, which did it with $10,304 in one theater. More...

Yangtze is not Up the Creek on the Per Theater Chart

April 29th, 2008

The Canadian documentary, Up the Yangtze, led the way on the per theater chart this week scoring $15,851 in its lone theater. Holly was just a tiny percent behind with $15,687, also in one theater. The final resident of the $10,000 club was Roman de Gare, which earned an average of $12,742 in two theaters. More...

All Quiet on the Per Theater Front

April 22nd, 2008

No film was able to top $10,000 on the per theater chart this past weekend. The Visitor came the closest with an average of $9,250 in 18 theaters. More...

Visitor Looking for a Long Stay on the Per Theater Chart

More...

Blueberries Take Flight on the Per Theater Chart

April 8th, 2008

Flight of the Red Balloon rose to the top of the Per Theater Chart this week scoring an average or $17,611 in its two theaters. The only other film to reach the $10,000 mark was My Blueberry Nights with an average of $12,358 in six theaters. More...

More...

Movie Website Updates for August 19 - August 25, 2007

August 25th, 2007

After a few busy weeks in a row, there was a total collapse in the number of sites on this week's list. Not only are there only a couple dozen sites this week, nearly half of them are films that are coming out this week and most of those had no updates to report. This leaves us with no sites that are award-worthy, and precious few that have to potential to make it there in the coming weeks. More...
