Movie Website Updates for April 15 - April 21, 2007

April 21, 2007

There were a few new flash sites to launch this week, but while there might be a couple future winners among those sites, it was a long time resident on this week's list that walked away with top honors. That site was Hot Fuzz - Official Site, which probably could have won several weeks ago if the features were added all at once. However, it's much better to spread the updates out in order to get people coming back week after week.

Away from Her - Official Site
New look and the rest of the usual information was added. There are two items that help the site stand out, firstly, each section starts with an audio clip. Secondly, there's a Memory Catcher where you can share and read other memories. (The dark blue snowflakes are the trailers.)

Balls of Fury - Official Site?
Even though this says it's a fan site, I'm pretty sure it's the official site. Regardless, it has the new the new trailer. Since the film was pushed to September, my expectations have been reduced to guilty pleasure, but the trailer maintains that level nicely.

Brooklyn Rules - Official Site
Most of the basics were added to the site this week making it either a good placeholder site or a terrible full site. We don't have long to wait to find out which one it is.

The Brothers Solomon - Official Site
Just the synopsis and the trailer, neither of which sold me on the movie. There's also a 18+ trailer, but I couldn't see it either because I'm Canadian, or because of a problem with the site.

Charlie Bartlett - Official Site
The official site is online, but so far just the trailer is online. It was better than expected and it has raised its profile in my mind.

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer - Official Site
I forgot to give the direct link to the Silver Surfer wiki.

Foodfight! - Official Site
The site is still down.

The Fracture - Official Site
Not much has changed since the site won the award, but then again, not much needed to change. Overall an excellent site with more than enough interactivity and video clips to keep the surfer interested.

The Golden Door - Official Site
Just the basics so far with a section called Ellis Island marked coming soon.

Hairspray - Official Site
The site's been completely redesigned and there are a couple new features, but the main draw is the trailer.

Hot Fuzz - Official Site
Overall this a very good site with almost everything a movie site should deliver. To start with, it's a very big site with plenty to explore with the features spread out over 9 sections. You have your synopsis, cast bios spread over a couple sections, image gallery that can be found on the ancient Mac in police station, the trailers in the videos section. While the three trailers are the only ones in the video section, they are far from the only videos on the site. There are five clips and 15 video blogs; the former can be found on the music players, (along with clips from the soundtrack), and the latter on the ancient Mac in the police station. Add in a few games, (Pub Quiz, Hot Fuzz Pac-man clone, and a action cop movie quiz), and there's more than enough to keep a surfer's attention for quite a while. My only complaint is the lack of sound and animation on the site; it could have used animated transitions / background animations. However, that's a minor complaint compared to the overall effectiveness of the site and it won't stop it from winning the quaint Weekly Website Award.

In the Land of Women - Official Site
MySpace site. ... Moving on.

Interview - Official Site
So far just the image gallery with roughly a dozen images.

Kickin' It Old Skool - Official Site
A few more features were added to the site, (like the short, short character bios).

Knocked Up - Official Site
The full site has launched this week but while there's a lot here, there's just as much marked coming soon. This includes regular features like bios and productions notes, as well as extras like the edit bay and music & links. There are a few extras here including clips before each section and a game called Baby Conversion Quiz. There you get to choose how much babies cost in terms of other things guys, (or gals), would want. Apparently either I don't know how much a baby costs, or I don't know how much a plasma TV costs. So far it's a good start and the site could be award-worthy by the time it is finished.

Lucky You - Official Site
The Texas Hold'Em game was added this week, but it is nothing special. The game play is mediocre to bad and the AI wasn't a challenge.

Nancy Drew: The Mystery in Hollywood Hills - Official Site
There are even more things marked coming soon than I mentioned last week including a section on the soundtrack and a tour of the manner. This could turn into an award-winning site.

Ocean 13 - Official Site
The flash site is up and it looks like it could a winner when all is said and done. There's a lot of style here, but at the moment not enough substance. Most of the regular features are marked coming soon while roughly half of the character sections are likewise missing. As these are added, we will get a better idea how the site is building up, but it is off to a good start.

Once - Official Site
Typical Fox Searchlight site. In other words, good content but lacks individuality.

Paris Je'Taime - Official Site
No real content so far but the trailer is marked coming soon.

Provoked: A True Story - Official Site
This site feels like it is trying to sell the movie to distributors more than moviegoers, and it probably is. Perhaps when the movie gets picked up here, we'll see a different site with a different focus.

The Salon - Official Site
Just the basics, (and there's no bios). The trailer didn't feel very fresh.

The Simpsons Movie - Official Site
Some posters were added to the site.

Spider-Man 3 - Official Site
Even more blog entries were added, including several video clips of the premiere in Tokyo.

Stephanie Daley - Official Site
Nothing new this week meaning the clips are still marked coming soon.

The Transformers - Official Site
The placeholder site was redone, but that appears to be all that was changed this week.

Triad Election - Official Site
No real content so far.

The Tripper - Official Site
MySpace.

Vacancy - Official Site
The bios and the production notes are still marked coming soon. Strange.

The Valet - Official Site
Simple site with just the basics, (and even then there are no bios). The closest thing to an extra is the text based interview with the director.
