Movie Websites Launches for Aril 23 - April 29

April 29, 2004

During the past week promotional websites for several movies were launched and some older ones added additional content. Here the list of this week's releases, a couple of new sites and few updates including the winner for the week, Mean Girls - Official Site. If you know of any new movie websites not on this list feel free to e-mail me with the details.

Alien vs. Predator
Current Content: Two major additions to the site, first most of the international sites were launched and second the latest behind-the-scenes video was uploaded. The video deals with some of the human characters in the movie. At least those we can expect to last long enough so that we learn more than just their names.

Around the World in 80 Days
Current Content: Another location was added to the site, this time it is India. In India you can read about the Taj Mahal and elephants or play a game where you ride on an elephant.

Bobby Jones: Stroke of Genius
Current Content: Most of the features on the site are text only but some are quite extensive. James Caviezel talks his role as Bobby Jones, and one of the producers talks about how difficult it is to raise money to make an independent film. Most of the regular features are also there including synopsis, cast and crew (no bios), image gallery, trailer, etc.

Breakin' All the Rules
Current Content: There was a major update this week, but it's not quite like the launch of a flash site. Don't get me wrong, this is definitely no long the placeholder site, but the Sony Pictures banner makes the site look like a glorified placeholder site. There is a lot of the usual features on the site, synopsis, production notes, cast, crew and character bios and the trailer. There are a couple of extras like a relationship quiz and a poll about getting dumped. There's a slight problem with the cast / character bios; the site mixes up Jennifer Esposito' s and Bianca Lawson's bios mixed up. Hopefully that will be fixed.

Catwoman
Current Content: Click on the symbol to see the movie poster.

A Cinderella Story
Current Content: The placeholder site underwent a complete redesign. The new placeholder site has the synopsis, trailer, photos as well as some downloads.

Envy
Current Content: No new updates since last week.

Garfield
Current Content: The flash site launched this week but most of the text is marked coming soon. The synopsis is there but the production notes and cast and crew bios are marked coming soon. Most of the multimedia features are there with the trailer, images and even two of the four games are on the site. I was also impressed with the sheer amount of animation on the site. Even the buttons are animated.

Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence
Current Content: Just the teaser site with a few features, the most notable being the Japanese trailer.

Godsend
Current Content: Not much has changed since the flash site first launched. There's some creepiness to the site but it is mostly standard stuff.

Laws of Attraction
Current Content: Another site for a film opening this week that has no new updates since last week.

Little Black Book
Current Content: Typical Sony placeholder site with the synopsis and the trailer.

Mean Girls
Current Content: The fifth wide release on this weeks list and like the other three there were no new updates since last week. Unlike the other sites this one didn't need much. Starting with the basics, the site has all the usual features done but they are very well done. The synopsis (mixed with behind-the-scene / pre-production information), production notes, (fashion, music and some of the cliques explored in the film) cast and crew bios, image gallery and the trailer. There are also plenty of extras, and some are a very video clip heavy like the Mean Girl Translator and Dating Guide, both of which have three video clips. Add in the downloads and the three games and this is a great site. I do have a small complaint about the background music, there's two songs and the first one is a little repetitive and the second is just plain awful. "My milkshake brings all the boys to the yard …" I hate that song. Still, it's a great site with plenty of animations, video clips, audio clips, etc. and it's the winner of the vile Weekly Website Awards.

New York Minute
Current Content: A couple of updates this week as the information on the soundtrack was added. It's not just a track listing either as you can listen to clips of each song. And one of the songs is the new background music but unfortunately it doesn't loop. Also added to the site was the, "Meet the Boys" section that has more in-depth information on the three actors in the movie.

The Saddest Music in the World
Current Content: Typical IFC Films site with a few extras including a lot of little clips of sad songs being played. There are other clips, but some are too weird to accurately describe.

Shark Tale
Current Content: Character bios were added to the site.

Soul Plane
Current Content: The last extra marked coming soon was added to the site. With it you can customize the plane and send it as an e-card.

The Terminal
Current Content: More additions to the placeholder site with the synopsis, cast and crew (no bios) and in-depth information about the set joining the trailer. There are two 360-degree virtual tours as well as a short flash animation of the outside of the set. Yet to be added is the photo gallery.

Troy
Current Content: The rest of the crew bios were added, as was one more as was one more section in the production showcase. But most importantly, the final trailer was added.

The Village
Current Content: The new trailer was added to the placeholder site as was the interactive desktop.
