February 18, 2016

Deadpool

Deadpool had the best theater average for the entire year with an average of $37,222. Granted, it is still early and there's no way this record will last till June, but it is still an incredible start. On the downside, there was no other film in the $10,000 club.

The new limited releases ranged from merely okay to terrible. Mountains May Depart was the best with $5,550 in its lone theater. A War was relatively close behind with an average of $4,548 in two theaters. Where to Invade Next was the wide limited release of the week playing in 308 theaters. It did okay with an average of $2,912. Touched with Fire was very close behind with an average of $2,803 in six theaters. The New Year's Eve Of Old Lee was also playing in six theaters and it earned an average of $2,587. Fitoor was playing in 148 theaters, but struggled with an average of $2,346. It's Already Tomorrow in Hong Kong missed the Mendoza Line with an average of $1,497 in ten theaters. Of Mind and Music was even worse with an opening of $932 in its lone theater.

The only film to reach a major milestone last week was The Big Short, which reached $65 million. It surpassed The Visit on the 2015 chart.
