Streaming Releases: Stay In the Loop
April 3, 2020
This week’s list of streaming debuts is dominated by Netflix TV shows. That said, I think the two DinseyNature documentaries, Dolphin Reef and Elephant, should attract some attention. While I’m interested in both Home Before Dark and Tales From the Loop, neither of which is a Netflix release.

Netflix
I watched the trailer to this movie and at first I thought it was a parody trailer making fun of really bad buddy cop comedies. Unfortunately, it is real, and if the reviews are to be trusted, really, really bad. Avoid at all costs.
Netflix
A stand-up comedy special by Swedish comedian, David Batra. Like most stand-up specials, there are no reviews on Rotten Tomatoes; in fact, there is no page. That said, if you are a fan of stand-up and you already have Netflix, it doesn’t cost anything to give it a try.
Disney+
The first of two DisneyNature documentaries. This film is earning better reviews, but they are both excellent and worth checking out.
Disney+
Meghan Markle narrates this DisneyNature documentary about a herd of elephants. The reviews are excellent and April is home to Earth Day, so it is a timely release.
Hulu
The third and final season of this Sci-fi comedy show about a janitor recruited to fight to prevent a devastating war. He was recruited, because he was the first to beat a seemingly unbeatable video game. This is pure nerd wish-fulfillment, but it is entertaining enough to work.
Apple TV
A TV series inspired by the real life nine-year old journalist, Hilde Lysiak. That premise alone is enough to make me interested in seeing the movie. On the other hand, the reviews are merely good, but not great.
Netflix
A Spanish TV show about a daring heist. The reviews are amazing and it has been so popular that there is a documentary about how popular it is, which is also debuting on Netflix this week.
Netflix
A reality TV cooking competition show where the talent level of the competitors can best be described as, “Well, at least they tried.” This could be a cruel show, but it seems to celebrate the amateur who gives it a go.
Netflix
The first of two kids shows in a row. This is one based on the movie Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron, which is much older than the target audience.
Netflix
A kids show about a little girl who transforms into StarBeam to fight the bad guys.
Netflix
A documentary about the English soccer team from Sunderland. The team was relegated, which might be a confusing term for many American sports fans. In most American sports, if a player plays poorly, they can be demoted to the minor leagues. Relegation is what happens when a team plays poorly and they have to play in a lower league the next season. There are no reviews for the second season on Rotten Tomatoes, but the first season was critically praised.
Amazon Prime
Amazon Prime (4K Ultra HD)
People of a small town that live about “The Loop”, a device used to discover the “mysteries of the universe”. This causes the people to experience all manner of fantastic events. The reviews are good, but not great. That said, if you have Amazon Prime, then it is worth checking out.
