International Details - Recep Ivedik is No Turkey

Recep Ivedik opened in its native Turkey and a few other markets scoring sixth place with $8.32 million on 483 screens in 4 markets. Of that total, $6.10 million was earned on 390 screens during a first place opening in its native market, which is above the pace of its predecessor. The film managed fourth place in Germany with $1.75 million on just 75 screens. An excellent start for the film.

  • Slumdog Millionaire fell out of the top five despite expanding. Over the weekend it grew by nearly 40% to $8.26 million on 1656 screens in 21 markets for a total of $63.33 million. The film landed in third place in Spain with $1.30 million on 177 screens giving it the best per screen average in that market over the past weekend. It also opened in Russia, but its success there was more subdued earning eighth place with $398,000 on 125 screens. Also of note was the U.K. where the film climbed into second polace with $2.59 million on 410 screens for a total of $28.46 million.
  • LOL added $5.78 million on 479 screens in 3 markets for a total of $12.70 million. Of that, $10.96 million has come from France, including $4.99 million on 461 screens this past weekend.
  • Transporter 3 shot up into the top ten with $4.76 million on 1455 screens in 13 markets for a total of $64.78 million internationally. Its big opening this past weekend came in China where the film managed first place with $4.44 million, which is more than expected in that market.
  • Bride Wars fell to tenth place with $4.71 million on 2395 screens in 40 markets lifting its total to just a hair under $39.00 million. The film opened in France but flopped with $914,000 on 241 screens while it fell 54% during its second weekend in Germany to $730,000 on 456 screens over the weekend for a total of $2.67 million after two.
  • Twilight fell out of the top ten with $3.86 million on 1992 screens in 33 markets for a total of $182.73 million internationally, which is closing in on its domestic total. The film has yet to open in Japan, but will likely fall off the charts before it does.
  • Pink Panther 2 opened in 12th place with $3.84 million on 951 screens in 27 markets over the weekend for a total of $4.41 million. The film made debuts in a lot of smaller markets, with its biggest market being the U.K., but it only managed eighth place there with $1.17 million on 385 screens. On the other hand, it topped the box office in Greece with $761,000 on 74 screens.
  • Hotel For Dogs climbed further reaching 13th place with $3.79 million on 1462 screens in 14 markets for a total of $14.49 million. Growth this past weekend was powered by the U.K. where the movie made $2.14 million on 430 screens, but that was only enough for fifth place.
  • Yes Man added $3.76 million on 1848 screens in 47 markets for a total of $113.97 million. The film opened in Germany this weekend and opens in Japan next month, and it is already safe to call the movie a financial success.
  • Revolutionary Road plummeted down from fourth to 15th with $3.40 million on 2318 screens in 44 markets for a total of $42.98 million.
  • Billu Barber opened in 16th place with $3.35 million on 837 screens in 18 markets, which is a solid debut for an Indian film.
  • Ex opened slipped to second place in Italy and 17th place internationally with $3.23 million on 571 screens for a total of $9.89 million after two weeks of release.
  • Confessions Of A Shopaholic opened in 18th place with $3.16 million on 452 screens in 5 markets. The largest of which was Russia where it opened in first place with $1.80 million on 415 screens. On the other hand, the film struggled in Mexico landing in eighth place with $331,000 on 250 screens.
  • Underworld: Rise of the Lycans had one of the worst week-to-week drop-offs on chart this past weekend down more than 51% to $2.72 million on 1296 screens in 34 markets for a total of $22.21 million. The film had no major openings this past weekend, but does open in Italy, France, and Germany before the end of the month.
  • Twentieth Century Boys 2 fell out of first place in Japan, but still added $2.71 million on 374 screens to its total of $21.28 million after three weeks of release.
  • Questo Piccolo Grande Amore, a.k.a., Quest of the Pickle of Big Love, opened in third place in Italy with $2.68 million on 467 screens over the weekend for a total of $3.11 million.
  • Beverly Hills Chihuahua fell out of the top twenty, again, with $2.59 million on 1060 screens in 12 markets for a total of $41.84 million. Its best market was Spain, where the film remained in second place with $1.72 million on 300 screens over the weekend for a total of $4.31 million after two.
  • My Bloody Valentine 3D returned to the international chart in 23rd place over Valentine weekend with $2.53 million on 743 screens in 13 markets for a total of just $11.56 million. It performed reasonably well in Mexico with $754,000 on 271 screens but struggled in Australia landing in sixth place with $481,000 on 134 screens.
  • Australia opened in Russia with $1.49 million on 626 screens over the weekend, which was enough for third in that market. It also helped lift its international weekend haul to 24th place with $2.50 million on 1646 screens in 9 markets, and it now has $146.45 million in total.
  • Seven Pounds had the worst week-to-week performance on the charts down 53% and 14 places. It did still add $2.50 million on 1815 screens in 42 markets for a total of $83.84 million, and with a number of openings left to go, it could still hit $100 million internationally.
  • The International debuted in 26th place internationally with $2.46 million on 566 screens in 3 markets. Of that, $2.04 million was earned on 481 screens in Germany.
  • Le Seminaire opened in fifth place in France with $1.98 million on 510 screens over the weekend, while in total it made $2.24 million on 525 screens in 2 markets.
  • Doubt nearly fell out of the top 30 with $2.20 million on 1006 screens in 27 markets for a total of $10.76 million. The film opened in France in semi-wide release with $457,000 on 107 screens, but that was not enough to reach the top ten.
  • Brass Knuckle Kids opened in third in Japan and 29th place internationally with $2.19 million on 280 screens.
  • Mamma Mia! grabbed the final spot in the top 30 with $1.92 million on 342 screens over the weekend, all of which was earned in a fourth place finish in Japan giving the film $16.71 million in that market. Internationally the film has $445.91 million and $590.04 million worldwide.
One last note, The Dark Knight officially reached $1 billion worldwide, only the fourth film to do so.
