Synopsis

Directed by first-timer Jesse Vile, Jason Becker tells the story of a man who refuses to give up on his outstanding talents despite incredible odds. When doctors diagnosed the 19-year-old rock star with Lou Gehrig's Disease, they said he would never make music again - and that he wouldn't live to see his 25th birthday. Twenty-two years later, Jason Becker is alive and making great music, having released a total of five albums since being diagnosed with ALS. His latest work, "Boy Meets Guitar - Volume 1 of the Youngster Tapes," was released earlier this year.

Per Theater Chart: Hobbit Reaches the Top

December 18th, 2012

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey easily led the way on the per theater chart. In fact, it was the only film to top $10,000. The film pulled in an average of $20,919, which is great for this time of year. The best new release was Let Fury Have the Hour, which only managed $3,386 in its lone theater. More...

DVD and Blu-ray Releases for December 18th, 2012

December 16th, 2012

It's the last week before Christmas, which means it is the last chance for last minute gifts. There are a number of first-run releases coming out this week, some of which are not coming out till Friday, or even next Monday. There are also quite a few limited releases and TV on DVD releases hitting the home market this week. However, none of these were big hits and very few earned strong praise from critics. That doesn't mean there are none that are worth picking up. In fact, we have a trio of contenders for Pick of the Week. Shameless: The Complete Second Season on DVD or Blu-ray; Pitch Perfect on DVD or Blu-ray Combo Pack; and Arbitrage on DVD or Blu-ray. It was a close call, but in the end I went with Arbitrage. Also coming out this week is Rush: 2012 - CD and Blu-ray in a Deluxe Edition or Super Deluxe Edition, which is a clear winner of Puck of the Week. More...

Any Day is a Good Day for Limited Releases

December 14th, 2012

It is another busy week for limited releases, including some that are earning overwhelmingly positive reviews. Unfortunately, like it usually is at this time of year, unless a limited release is earning Oscar buzz, it is very unlikely to find an audience in limited release. Any Day Now is the film I have the highest hopes for, but even for a film with 88% positive reviews, it will be a challenge. More...
