There were only four new releases to chart this week, and only one made it into the top five. This left Beowulf with an easy road to first place as it added $9.02 million in rentals for the week and $19.94 million after two. Into the Wild was the best of the new entries earning $8.80 million over the week, which was close to half of what it earned theatrically. American Gangster remained strong while it slipped to third place with $7.44 million over the week and $25.62 million after three. Michael Clayton also slipped one spot to land in fourth with $5.92 million over the week for a three-week total of $21.33 million. Rounding out the top five was 30 Days of Night with $5.68 million, which lifted its total to $12.56 million after two weeks.

The best of the rest was Awake, which just missed the top five opening with $5.25 million. Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium opened in eighth place with just $4.30 million, which was disappointing even compared to its theatrical run. Finally, Things We Lost in the Fire opened in 11th place with $3.88 million, which is just over what it made theatrically.
