Note: Due to Remembrance Day holiday, the Movie Website column is published early in an abridged edition.
During the past week promotional websites for several movies were launched and some older ones added additional content. Here the list of this week's releases, a couple of new sites and few updates, including this week's winner Closer - Official Site. If you know of any new movie websites not on this list feel free to e-mail me with the details.
After the Sunset
Current Content: Good site with all the usual features plus a smattering of extras like character bios and a music video. This site also has enough sound and animation, but the looping on the background music could use some work.
Alone in the Dark
Current Content: Has a very similar feel to the Bloodrayne website. The site has most of the usual features, (the cast bios are not on the site yet) but the style is simple and doesn't take advantage of the source material.
Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason
Current Content: The interview section has been cleaned up, which is the only change from last week. Still, it is an award winning site, so there's not much you need to change.
Chicken Little
Current Content: A new trailer was added to the site. Quite frankly, I liked the old one better.
Closer
Current Content: The flash site launched this week and it hits all the main points a movie site should, synopsis, cast and crew bios, etc. There are a few extras like character bios, which deals more with insights into the character by the actor and others than an actual bio. This brings us to the most unusual feature on the site, the psuedo-chat. There's a chat window you can read, (and add to if you want) with a different script for each of the four main characters and for the main site. Another nice feature was the background music, not only is there an instrumental loop like that of most sites, but you can choose to listen to a song by Damien Rice instead. (Great song, by the way.) Unfortunately, it doesn't loop by merely returns you to the normal background music and you have to reload the song to hear it again. But that's a minor quibble and certainly not enough to stop the site from winning the epitomized Weekly Website Award.
Finding Neverland
Current Content: Just your typical Miramax website.
Hide and Seek
Current Content: Just the trailer so far.
Imaginary Heroes
Current Content: The flash site launched this week and it wins points for the animation within the site. It also has all the usual features like synopsis, cast and crew bios, but I can't get the trailer to work.
Kinsey
Current Content: This site has all the usual features, including an impressive set of production notes. The biggest extra feature is the five clips from the movie, some of which are quite long. As for the style of the site, there is a bit of animation, but mostly just fading in and out of images and such. Nothing flashy, but flashy wouldn't work here anyway.
Monster-in-Law
Current Content: Two teaser trailers and a half a dozen photos.
Noel
Current Content: Nothing new since last week, but it is interesting to note that the website spends almost as much time advertising LidRock and Flexplay and the movie itself. On a side note, Flexplay was a bad idea when it was called Divx, it was bad idea when it was called EZ-D and it's a bad idea now.
Le Petite Lili
Current Content: Standard First Run Features movie website.
Polar Express
Current Content: The movie opens tonight but the site still have features marked coming soon. Of the features added since last week, the Snowflake Generator is the best.
Seed of Chucky
Current Content: The film opens on Friday, but most of the content marked coming soon has still not been added yet. Behind the scenes, interviews, clips and all of the Bloodlines section are still marked coming soon. Had all of these features been added, this site probably would have been this week's winner. However, because the column is being published a day early, I'll check back next week to see if they are there.
Serenity
Current Content: There's nothing new on the main site, but the Browncoats section has some media buzz about the movie and other Joss Whedon news. Fans of the show will definitely want to check it out.
