The Wind Rises led the way on the per theater chart. It earned an average of $14,941 in 21 theaters, which is a good start, especially for this time of year. The only other film to reach the $10,000 club was Elaine Stritch: Shoot Me with an average of $13,927 in 2 theaters.

There other new limited releases ranged from strong to complete disasters. Child's Pose opened on Wednesday earning close to $15,000 during its five-day opening. Of that, just shy of $13,000 was earned over the weekend in two theaters for an average of $6,478. Highway did okay with an average of $3,368 in 97 theaters. That is inline with most Indian films that open here. On the other hand, the Mendoza Line claimed two victims with In Secret opening with just under $266,000 in 266 theaters for an average of $998. Finally there's Barefoot, which struggled even more with an average of $654 in 18 theaters.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a couple Per Theater Chart alumni:

  • Gloria hit its first milestone since this time last week and it could get to $2 million before too long.
  • The Great Beauty got to $2 million just before the weekend and it looks like it will pick up the Oscar this weekend. I don't think that will be enough to help it get to $3 million, on the other hand.
