IMAX: Shrek Just Solid

May 25th, 2010

Shrek Forever After opened in 194 IMAX theaters over the weekend, which was a record theater count. It made $4.8 million during its opening weekend. However, it is hard to be too enthusiastic about this beginning. Granted, it does represent about 7% of the film's opening weekend on just 2% of the film's screens, but it is only half of what Iron Man 2 opened with a couple weeks ago. It was stronger internationally, earning $750,000 on 12 screens with scheduled openings in more than 30 international IMAX theaters ahead of it.

Next up is Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, which started its international run over the weekend. (No box office numbers have been released so far.)
