Almost No Activity on the Per Theater Chart

October 26, 2010

There was only one film that reached the $10,000 mark on the per theater chart, and it was the overall box office leader, Paranormal Activity 2. That film opened with an average of $12,649 in just over 3200 theaters.

The best of the new limited releases was Boxing Gym with $7,500 in one theater. BearCity was also able to do respectable business with $5,980 in its lone theater. The Taqwacores was not as lucky with $3,532 in one theater. Meanwhile, Inhale missed the Mendoza Line with an average of $1,515 in two theaters.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a few Per Theater Charts alumni:

  • Never Let Me Go reached $2 million late in the weekend, but that might be as far as it goes.
  • Waiting for Superman topped $3 million early in the weekend and it is already nearly at $4 million.
  • Mao's Last Dancer has made it to $4 million, if you include its earlier run in Canada.
  • As expected, It's Kind of a Funny Story slumped at the box office, but it still made it to $5 million over the weekend. That will be its last major milestone.
