DVD Rentals - Wolverine Cuts Down the Competition

September 29, 2009

There were not as many new releases to reach the top 30 on this week's rental chart as there were on the sales chart, but the same film topped both. X-Men Origins - Wolverine earned first place with more than 2.5 times as many rentals as State of Play, which was pushed into second place after two weeks on top. Crank 2 - High Voltage was close behind, as was Next Day Air, which clearly more popular as a rental than a purchase. Rounding out the top five was Duplicity.

Blood and Bone opened in 14th place, while the only other new release to chart was Easy Virture, which landed in 17th place.

Overall rentals were 17.8% higher than last week at $156.4 million. More importantly, they were 18.2% higher than the same week last year.
