Movie Website Updates for November 4 - November 10

November 10, 2005

During the past week promotional websites for several movies were launched and some older ones added additional content. Here the list of this week's releases, a couple of new sites and few updates, including this week's winner, Aeon Flux - Official Site

Aeon Flux - Official Site
Huge update this week including the first two chapters of the interactive comic book and half-a-dozen interview clips. I think the balance between features that are on the site and those marked coming soon has tipped in the favor of the former category, but there's still plenty left to be added. It's the best site on this week's list and is the winner of the immemorial Weekly Website Award not only for what it is, but partially for what it should become. I'm especially looking forward to the rest of the interactive comic book.

Ant Bully - Official Site
The synopsis and the teaser trailer were added to the site, but I can't say they sold the film very well. I'm less interested in seeing the film now then I was when I first heard about the project.

Bee Movie - Official Site
The movie opens tomorrow and Experience and Kaleidoscope are still marked coming soon.

The Break-Up - Official Site
Placeholder site with just the synopsis and the trailer. Initial impressions, I can't seem myself watching this movie, ever. This was just a really bad trailer.

Cape of Good Hope - Official Site
Good site with plenty of extras in the form of video clips, eight in total, (6 clips, 1 interview and 1 review).

Clerks 2: The Passion of the Clerks - Official Site
Two more clips and an ad for an even celebrating the release of Jay and Silent Bob Do Degrassi at Kevin Smith's comic book store in Red Bank, New Jersey. One of the clips is the second in what will hopefully be a series of "I Bet You" clips, but it's not for the weak of stomach.

Derailed - Official Site
It looks like Weinstein Co. will be taking over for Miramax when it comes to poorly done websites.

Edison - Official Site
Typical site will all the usual information but there's nothing here to make it stand out, which is an apt description of the trailer as well.

End of the Spear - Official Site
This is an excellent site with plenty of content and not just the usual features. There are several behind-the-scenes videos as well as a timeline. Lastly, there's a section called, "Enter the Tribe" marked coming soon.

The Fountain - Official Site
No updates on the site, but the trailer is online, but it makes less sense than the site.

Get Rich or Die Tryin' - Official Site
A strong site with plenty of video clips and music, but it's guilty of preaching to the choir and doesn't sell the film well to those who are more ambivalent.

Good Morning, Night - Official Site
Typical WellSpring movie site.

Grandma's Boy - Official Site
Just the trailer so far, but it's a red banner trailer which means there is swearing and nudity. Click here to find the green banner trailer. I have no idea where to look to find a trailer that makes the film look good.

Hard Candy - Official Site
There's nothing here except some blurbs from some reviews, but the film doesn't open for a long time, so there's plenty of time for updates.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire - Official Site
A few more games were added to the site, as was the Dark Maze section. I can't get the enchanted maze to work for me, it just hangs.

Jesus is Magic - Official Site
The film is a concert film, and therefore isn't judged the same as websites for other movies. It does have all the necessary information for a movie of this type, plus some sound and animation.

King Kong - Official Site
Complete redesign this week but there's not much new content here. I except the full site will be up within a week or two.

The Libertine - Official Site
The trailer was added this week, but I was not particularly impressed.

Memoirs of a Geisha - Official Site
The flash site is up, but while it has all the usual information, it doesn't have enough sound and animation to really keep surfers' attention.

Munich - Official Site
The placeholder site has been redone and the synopsis and trailer were added to the site. It's one of several trailers I've seen for upcoming releases where I think, "Yeah, it looks good, but is it Oscar worthy." It's the curse of great expectations.

Niagara Motel - Official Site
A Canadian movie, and as such, this will be the last time you hear about it. Sadly, that is not an uncommon occurrence for Canadian movies. The website has all the usual features and a game where you get to stable Kevin Pollak in the face. One last note, the movie stars Caroline Dhavernas, who was also in Wonderfalls, which was also set in Niagara Falls.

Pride and Prejudice - Official Site
The film opens in limited release this week and the site added soundtrack, film clips, and sets leaving just the interviews and script to screen marked coming soon.

Pulse - Official Site
The usual features are here with a bit of style.

The Ringer - Official Site
Another flash site that launched this week, this one has bare essentials but little else. There are several audio clips, as well as some animation and a section called Cross the Line marked coming soon but it's not a huge site.

Saw 3 - Official Site
It looks like there's going to be a Saw 3. No surprise there.

Slither - Official Site
The site was completely redone this week and it is either a very impressive placeholder site, or a mediocre full site. On the one hand, there's just the synopsis, photo gallery, trailer, and downloads on the site. On the other hand, there's some sound and animation, including audio clips, and the film doesn't open for nearly five months, so there's plenty of time to add new content. All things considered, it seems likely that, "very impressive placeholder site" is the more likely choice.

Spider-Man 3 - Official Site
There's an official announcement on the site, Thomas Hadden Church is playing Flint Marko, a.k.a. Sandman. There's no official word on who Topher Grace is playing, but it was let slip that he's playing Eddie Brock, a.k.a. Venom. I have mixed reaction to this, I think Thomas Hadden Church will be a good Sandman, but he would have been a better Venom than Topher Grace, who would have been great playing Cletus Kasady, a.k.a. Carnage.

Superman Returns - Official Site
There were some additions to the placeholder site this week including the synopsis, image gallery and video journal.

Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny - Official Site
The third video clip, Consult with the Devil, was added to the site.

V For Vendetta - Official Site
Information on Guy Fawkes day was added to the site, including a hangman game.

Walk the Line - Official Site
The Family Tree section was added to the site, which deals with all the musicians that have either recorded a song with Johnny Cash, covered one of his songs, or vice verse.

Yours, Mine and Ours - Official Site
Massive update this week with most of the content added except for the media section. Still, the site is better than before and looks to be much better than the movie itself.

Zathura - Official Site
This is a good site with all the usual features plus plenty of games, I just couldn't get into it.
