The Screen Actors Guild announced their nominations this week and we are starting to see some patterns with similar names appearing over and over again. This time Bombshell led the way, earning four nominations, but four other films earned two or more nominations.

Notes and Reactions...

  • Bombshell earned four nominations and is the biggest winner for the SAG Nominations. That said, Marriage Story, The Irishman, Jojo Rabbit, Joker, Ford v. Ferrari, and Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood also earned multiple nominations and all six have had previous success during Awards Season.
  • Strangely, Marriage Story earned nominations in three of the four individual acting categories, but not Best Ensemble.
  • There are lots of familiar people on this list. For example, all five nominees for Best Actor in a Leading Role were also nominated for the Golden Globes, as were four of the five Best Lead Actresses and a majority of the supporting nominees.
  • Avengers: Endgame was the only film nominated for Best Stunts that didn’t also earn at least one acting nomination. I’m not sure if that helps or hurts its chances to win. On the one hand, it might not be seen as prestigious enough to win a SAG award. On the other hand, voters who do think it should win something won’t have another category to vote for the film instead of this one.
