Love and Limited Releases

February 12, 2010

It's a slow week for limited releases with only one on our list. There's also a Canadian film debuting in Vancouver, which could be of interested to my fellow Canucks.

Love and Savagery - Reviews
A Canadian movie starring Allan Hawco (who is in a new show called Republic of Doyle. If you get a chance, check it out). In the movie he plays Michael McCarthy, a poet and a geologist who travels to Ballyvaughan, Ireland to examine the Burren, which means Great Rock. There he meets Cathleen (Sarah Greene) and tries to start a relationship with her, but something in her past might prevent that. Reviews so far are mixed with some critics complaining that the film is too "tepid" to be effective while others have lavish praise on the cinematography and the chemistry between the two leads. Love and Savagery opens tonight at the Tinseltown Theater in Vancouver.

My Name is Khan - No Reviews
An Indian film being released in the United States by Fox Searchlight. This is not the first time a Bollywood film has been released by a major studio, but it is still rare. On the other hand, it has no reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, which is common for these films. My Name is Khan is opening tonight in 120 theaters, which is high, even for this type of film.
