Per Theater Chart: Enough is Never Enough

September 24, 2013

There were two major releases on the per theater chart with Enough Said pulling in an average of $58,200 in four theaters, while it has made $287,000 from Wednesday through Sunday. The only other film in the $10,000 club was Rush with an average of $37,458 in five theaters. This bodes well for it wide expansion on Friday.

There were a number of other new limited releases, most of which really struggled. The Wizard of Oz was one of the few exceptions earning an average of $9,730 in just over 300 theaters. That's a great weekend result. After Tiller was the only other new release to do really well with an average of $7,750 in two theaters. Another documentary, Generation Iron, earned an average of $4,455 in 55 theaters. That's an average per theater average, but its theater count was really high for a limited release, so that is a mitigating factor. Thanks for Sharing was also playing in a lot of theaters, 269, but its average was a mere $2,008. That's terrible and I suspect it will fade away really quickly. C.O.G. was even weaker with an average of $1,610 in 20 theaters. Men at Lunch opened in 1 theater pulling in $1,530. The Short Game earned an average of $1,422 in 20 theaters. I guess not a lot of people were interested in a documentary about golf. A Single Shot was the final new release with an average of $1,002 in ten theaters.

This past week also saw milestones reached for only one Per Theater Chart alumni, Blackfish, which topped $2 million since this time last week. While that's as far as it will go, this is still great for a documentary.
