IMAX - Big Run on the Big, Big Screen

April 3, 2008

It's been a while since there was something noteworthy at the IMAX box office, but Dolphins and Whales: Tribes of the Ocean 3D has broken records in Germany during its run. Since it opened there on March 13th the film has been seen by 47,000 moviegoers pulling in $607,000 on just 17 screens. This is almost as much business as the film has done here, but it has done it in only a few weeks as opposed to a month and a half. The record-breaking run is impressive, but not totally unexpected. After all, Earth has done nearly $30 million in business in Germany, so there's obviously a demand for this type of film in the market.
