It's Lonely at the Top

January 25, 2005

Just a lone film in the $10,000 club this week as Million Dollar Baby continued its amazing run, earning $1.65 million in 147 theaters for a $11,239 average.

This past week also saw some milestones reached for several Per Theater Charts alumni:

  • Bad Education made it to $3 million over the weekend, and while it is not doing as well as Pedro Almodovar's previous releases it's still had a good run so far.
  • Beyond the Sea hit $5 million over the weekend, but it is starting to shed theaters now.
  • Hotel Rwanda also reached $5 million, but unlike Bad Education, its theater count is still on the rise.
  • A couple of Golden Globe Wins helped Sideways reached a major milestone over the weekend. The film, which placed 11th for the fourth time during its run, topped $30 million and now sits at $32.1 million so far. All this without finishing in the top ten once during its 14 weeks of release. Before the week is out, the film should surpass The Pianist into second place on the Top Ten Films never to finish in the Top Ten. Maybe. Exact figures for The Rocky Horror Picture Show are nearly impossible to find so it may in fact be the leader in this unusual category.
