Charlie Crashes the Per Theater Charts

July 19, 2005

Wide releases finished first and second on the Per Theater Charts this weekend, with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory leading with $14,901 average in 3,770 theaters. The Wedding Crashers didn't open in nearly as many theaters but its $11,590 average was impressive nonetheless. While March of the Penguins did yield the crown on the Per Theater Charts to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, it is still the big story on this week's chart. The Documentary more than doubled its theater count, again, but its average dropped just 28% to $11,478.

This past week also saw some milestones reached for several Per Theater Charts alumni:

  • Saving Face may have peaked weeks ago, but it did manage to cross $1 million over the weekend.
  • Me and You and Everyone We Know made it to $1 million midweek and is already nearly half way to $2 million.
  • Howl's Moving Castle reached $4 million late last week and might have enough steam left in its run to reach $5 million.
  • March of the Penguins again earned over $1 million during the weekend, so it's no surprise it topped a milestone since last week. In fact, three milestones fell since then and the film now has more than $4 million.
  • Mad Hot Ballroom is showing incredible legs and that helped it hit $5 million early in the weekend.
