Theater Counts: Chronicles of Narnia Opens in 3,616 Theaters
December 8, 2005
The Chronicles of Narnia opens this weekend in a solid 3,616 theaters.
It's a guaranteed number one, of course, but there'll be great interest in its opening weekend gross, as Hollywood looks to make up for a relatively poor year with a strong Holiday Season.
Its benchmark is Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (the first movie in the Lord of the Rings franchise), which opened with $47 million the weekend before Christmas 2001.
Anything less than that, and King Kong will have to work a miracle to save the year.
The only other major release this weekend is Syriana, which expands into 1,752 venues, after 2 weeks in limited release.
