Movie Websites Launches for Aril 30 - May 6

May 6, 2004

During the past week promotional websites for several movies were launched and some older ones added additional content. Here the list of this week's releases, a couple of new sites and few updates including the winner for the week, Shrek 2 - >Official Site. If you know of any new movie websites not on this list feel free to e-mail me with the details.

Around the World in 80 Days
Current Content: Another week, another location. In China you can read about the Great Wall or Fireworks or fight off the Black Scorpions.

Batman Begins
Current Content: Two photos of Batman were added to the site.

Because of Winn-Dixie
Current Content: Placeholder site with just the synopsis and teachers' guide.

Catwoman
Current Content: An entirely new placeholder site was launched during the past week. So far it's just the synopsis, downloads, and two image galleries, (one for stills and the other for concept art.) The trailer is marked coming soon.

The Chronicles of Riddick
Current Content: There was a new introduction page added to the site, as was the third chapter in the Hunt for Riddick. This is a very detailed section and you should expect to spend a long time here if you want to get through it all. The only concern I have is this website will be required reading in order to understand the movie.

A Cinderella Story
Current Content: Information on the soundtrack was added to the site.

The Cookout
Current Content: Just a placeholder site with the synopsis and trailer.

The Day After Tomorrow
Current Content: The latest trailer was added to the site.

De-Lovely
Current Content: Cast and crew bios were added.

Godzilla
Current Content: Simple site with just the trailer and most importantly, a list of theatres were it is playing.

The Green Hornet
Current Content: First news link in nearly a month was added.

Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle
Current Content: This site is sorely missing sound. Some site that don't have sound are quite static to begin with so the lack of sound isn't has damaging. This site, on the other hand, has plenty of animation so the silence really stands out. There are two songs you can download, which you can listen to I guess. As for the rest of the content, the usual features are there (synopsis, trailer, cast bios, image gallery, etc.) The cast bios were especially well done with lots of animation, but would be so much better with some sound even just a simple bouncing noise each time a ball hit a wall. The last feature is a game, which also has no sound, but there appears to at least be an option for sound. This leads me to believe that sound was supposed to be on the site and was accidentally left out and will be added later on.

I'll Sleep When I'm Dead
Current Content: None, just a placeholder site with the name. However, the trailer is available on Apple.com.

King Arthur
Current Content: Two TV spots were added to the placeholder site.

The Motorcycle Diaries
Current Content: There is a lot of text on this site and not just the usual synopsis and cast and crew bios either. There's the director's statement, writer's statement, interview with the direction, interview with one of the stars. However, the only thing resembling multimedia is a image gallery with just six images.

The Mudge Boy
Current Content: A simple site with just the synopsis and theatre listing.

New York Minute
Current Content: No new updates since last week, but it’s a good site that hits all the major points. There are a few sections still marked coming soon like the bloopers and clips, but those are usually not added until after the debut.

Off the Lip
Current Content: A few new images were added to the site, including some very, very hi-res versions.

Raising Helen
Current Content: Information on the soundtrack, including clips for all the songs, was added to the site. Also added was a Posting Board to add Mother's Day messages and a Supermom Survival Kit.

Seeing Other People
Current Content: Simple site without sound or animation, (outside the trailer of course.) The site does have most of the regular features: synopsis, trailer, cast bios and an image gallery that includes some very, very hi-res images.

Shrek 2
Current Content: There was a massive update this week as the main part of the site was added and what was the main section last week was relegated to a small section on the new site. Now you get to travel throughout the Kingdom Far, Far Away, which is divided into four sections to explore. You can find games, activities, souvenirs and most importantly, potion ingredients. Once you find them all you can play an additional game to try and create a potion to turn Donkey into a stallion. The previous main section of the site also had an update with Behind the Fairytale added. This section contains most of the usual movie site features, synopsis, production notes and cast and crew bios. Combined with the background music, sound effects and plenty of audio clips from the movie, this is a nearly perfect site and easily this week's winner of the odorous Weekly Website Award.

Soul Plane
Current Content: The synopsis, cast and crew bios and production notes were added to the site. These were not marked coming soon, so there's no telling what else might be added later on.

Super Size Me
Current Content: I must say I like this site. Documentaries tend to be very stuffy and this is usually reflected in the website. On the other hand, this is not a stuffy documentary and the site is very fun. The regular features are there, synopsis, trailer, etc. There are also a couple of extras like two versions of the theme song and a game, which is basically Pac-Man with a different art.

Troy
Current Content: Two more sections were added: Rediscover Troy and Partners and Link. The first takes you to the British Museum where there is a section on troy. The latter is basically just ads.

Valetin
Current Content: A typical Miramax site.

Van Helsing
Current Content: There have been no updates since the site won the award two weeks ago. And that's too bad since there are a few more features marked coming soon.

The Village
Current Content: The full site launched this week, mostly. Almost all the regular features such as the synopsis, cast and crew (bios marked coming soon), image gallery, downloads and the trailer are there. Production notes, a detailed look at director M. Night Shyamalan, the poster, videos and advertising are marked coming soon.
