Mission: Impossible—Fallout

Mission: Impossible—Fallout rocketed into first place with $89.1 million in 65 theaters over the weekend for totals of $442.7 million internationally and $647.1 million worldwide. The film debuted in first place in China with $76.14 million over the weekend for a total opening of $77.64 million. It had to settle for second place in Italy with $2.22 million, as Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation remained in first place in that market. It won’t take long before this film takes over top spot in the franchise.

The Meg remained in second place with $18.4 million on 10,841 screens in 66 markets for totals of $343.8 million internationally and $464.3 million worldwide. The film had no major market openings this past weekend, but it did repeat on top of the chart in France with $2.6 million on 437 screens for a two-week total of $8.4 million.

Ant-Man and the Wasp fell from first to third with $15.8 million in 21 markets for totals of $381.4 million internationally and $595.0 million worldwide. The film opened in its final new market, Japan, where it made $3.7 million over the weekend, which is a 48% increase from the first film. Meanwhile, it added $11.43 million in China crossing the $100 million market in the process. Its two-week tally sits at $108.22 million.

Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation slipped to fourth place with $12.48 million on 11,826 screens in 83 markets for totals of $323.98 million internationally and $486.00 million worldwide. The film remained in first place in Italy with $2.67 million during its second weekend of release for a two-week total of $10.06 million. This strong hold helped the film become the biggest hit in the franchise so far.

Crazy Rich Asians entered the top five for the first time with $10.4 million on 1,599 screens in 24 markets for a still early total of $19.9 million. Its best market was Australia where it expanded nationwide earning $3.83 million on 477 screens for a two-week total of $5.16 million. This is not that far off its two-week total here, given the relative size of the two markets.

Incredibles 2 rose into seventh place with $9.6 million in 28 markets for totals of $562.5 million internationally and $1.164 billion worldwide. The film overtook Captain America: Civil War for 18th place on the all-time chart and Minions won’t last in 17th place for long.
