A Silent Voice

Bumblebee is the last of the major winter release to hit the home market and with that we enter the summer doldrums. Fortunately, it is a great movie, even if it can’t live up to its Tomatometer Score, but it is still worth picking up and a contender for Pick of the Week. The only other contender is A Silent Voice on Blu-ray. It wasn’t a really close contest and A Silent Voice truly earns that honor.

Archer: The Complete Season Nine: Danger Island - Reviews - Buy from Amazon: DVD
The screener arrived on Monday. That’s technically not late, but too late to get a review done on time. I will be watching it as soon as I’ve done this story.

The Bletchley Circle: San Francisco - Reviews - Buy from Amazon: DVD
A spin-off of The Bletchley Circle, but it’s earning terrible reviews. Stick with the original.

Bumblebee - Buy from Amazon: DVD, Blu-ray Combo Pack or 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack
Video on Demand
The first film in the Transformers franchise to earn overwhelmingly positive reviews. It was also the weakest at the box office. Did it deserve a bigger box office? Or were critics overly generous? Read our review to find out.

Also coming out this week is a franchise Boxset. However, only Bumblebee is really worth owning.

Dragon Ball Super: Part Seven - Reviews - Buy from Amazon: DVD or Blu-ray
Anime is weird. There are shows that despite earning incredible acclaim and are beloved by fans, only get one, maybe two seasons. Then there are shows like Dragon Ball that never seem to end. Shows that have runs somewhere in the middle are strangely rare.

Joni Mitchell 75: A Birthday Celebration - No Reviews - Buy from Amazon: DVD
It is very rare for concert DVD to appear this high up on the sales chart.

Last of the Summer Wine: Vintage 2009 - Reviews - Buy from Amazon: DVD
The penultimate season of the longest-running BBC comedy and one of the longest-running live-action TV shows of all time.

Love in Design - Reviews - Buy from Amazon: DVD
It’s a Hallmark Channel Original Movie. There are no reviews, but if you are in the target audience, then you know if you want to see this one or not.

The Man Who Killed Hitler and Then the Big Foot - Reviews - Buy from Amazon: DVD or Blu-ray
Video on Demand
This film is better than it should be, especially given that name, but it is merely good and not great. There are some who will love this film and it has major cult classic potential. Extras include an audio commentary track, a substantial making of featurette, deleted scenes, interviews, and more. It is worth picking up and nearly a contender for Pick of the Week.

The Mule - Reviews - Buy from Amazon: DVD or Blu-ray
Busted Oscar-bait. Given its pedigree and its release date, most assumed it would be a major player during Awards Season, but that didn’t happen. In fact, its reviews weren’t even strong enough to be Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. Additionally, the only extras are a making of featurette and a music video. That’s disappointing.

My Brilliant Friend - Reviews - Buy from Amazon: DVD or Blu-ray Combo Pack
An HBO TV show about the friendship between two women that started in Naples in the 1960s. The reviews are amazing, but it is only coming out on DVD with substantial extras.

A Silent Voice - Reviews - Buy from Amazon: DVD or Blu-ray
This movie has an average review of just over 9 out of 10 on My Anime List. It is about a deaf girl who was bullied until she had to leave her elementary school. Her bully becomes a social outcast and years later tries to find her to make amends. Extras are limited to promos and music videos, which is too bad, as apparently the U.K. version has some interviews and even a look at some of the real-life locations in the movie. Even so, it is easily worth picking up and a contender for Pick of the Week.

Vice - Reviews - Buy from Amazon: DVD or Blu-ray
Video on Demand
This should have been busted Oscar-bait, as its reviews were barely in the overall positive level. However, Awards Season voters loved it a lot more than critics or regular audiences did.

Blu-ray Releases - Buy from Amazon:
350 Days - No Reviews - Buy from Amazon: DVD or Blu-ray
Anyone You Can Do, I Can Do Better - Reviews - Buy from Amazon: DVD or Blu-ray

An Innocent Man - Reviews - Buy from Amazon: Blu-ray
Pokémon: Indigo League: Season One - No Reviews - Buy from Amazon: Blu-ray
Rust Creek - Reviews - Buy from Amazon: DVD or Blu-ray
Terra Formars - No Reviews - Buy from Amazon: Blu-ray
There’s a lot of Anime on this week’s list, including straight up Hentai. Castle Town Dandelion is arguably the best of those. However, I’m most interested in The Great Buster and Terra Formars.

4K Ultra HD Releases - Buy from Amazon:
Bumblebee - Review - Buy from Amazon: 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack
Video on Demand
Hellboy Animated Double-Feature - No Reviews - Buy from Amazon: 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack
There are only two 4K releases this week, but one of them is the biggest release of the week.

TV on DVD Megasets - Buy from Amazon:
No megasets this week.

Video on Demand - Buy from Amazon:
Glass - Reviews - Video on Demand
There’s only one secondary VOD release on this week’s list and I’m not particularly interested in seeing it.
