Theater Averages: The Lodge Takes up Residence in Top Spot

February 13, 2020

The Lodge

It is very rare for a horror film to lead the way on the theater average chart, but The Lodge did just that with an average of $12,709 in six theaters. The only other member of the $10,000 club was Cane River, which earned $10,240 in its lone theater.

Only two other new limited releases reported box office numbers. And Then We Danced did well with an average of $6,940 in two theaters. Come to Daddy was well back with an average of $2,117 in 29 theaters; however, it was playing on VOD, so just avoiding the Mendoza Line is impressive.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a few Per Theater Chart alumni:

  • 2020 Oscar Shorts reached $2 million in just two weeks; however, with the Oscars done, its box office chances going forward are negligible.
  • Weathering With You hit $7.5 million over the weekend. That’s as far as it will go, but this is still stellar for an animated film and shows anime is a viable market domestically.
  • Jojo Rabbit got all the way to $30 million and since it did well at the Oscars, getting to $35 million shouldn’t be too much of a challenge.
  • Parasite also hit a major milestone, $35 million in this case, and it did even better at the Oscars, so who knows where it will end up.
  • 1917 wasn’t as successful at the Oscars, but that didn’t stop it from getting to $125 million over the weekend.
