Movie Website Updates for June 17 - June 23

June 23, 2005

During the past week promotional websites for several movies were launched and some older ones added additional content. Here the list of this week's releases, a couple of new sites and few updates, including this week's winner, Chicken Little - Official Site.

Ask the Dust
There's a new look for the placeholder site, but no new content.

Bad News Bears
The flash site is up, and while it's a good start there are too many special features marked coming soon to judge the site. Right now just the synopsis, image gallery, trailer and two games are on the site, with almost as much marked coming soon.

Bewitched
The mobile section was added to the site, which is a game you can buy for your phone.

Chicken Little
The flash site launched this week, or to be more accurate, the flash sites. The first site is a tour of Oakey Oak with the usual features, (synopsis, character bios, etc.) which can be accessed either from the menu above the town, or by clicking on the appropriate building. The other is The Sky Is Falling and that tracks evidence that the sky really is falling, plus it supplies emergency plans to deal with that eventuality. The use of sound and animation isn't bad, especially the placeholder site which allows you to make Chicken Little strut his funky stuff. There's not much marked coming soon, (just a game in the latter site) but I have a feeling more will be added before the film finally opens. In the meantime, it is the winner of the hysterical Weekly Website Award.

Cronicas
The site uses the TV motif rather well, but it lacks in other areas. For instance, the trailer is just the .mov file, which doesn’t look professional.

Dark Water
There have been a couple of small changes to the site, which has made it a bit more interactive.

The Dukes of Hazzard
The flash site is up and man are they pushing Daisy Duke hard. It's like they think that's the only way to sell the film. The site contains the usual features, (much of it marked coming soon: cast & crew bios, production notes) plus a few extras. The most notably is the game of Texas Hold'em.

Fantastic Four
A 10-minute long behind-the-scenes look was added to the site. I'm still a little apprehensive on how The Thing looks at times, but I think it will be a good movie.

The Fog
There's not much here after the animated intro, just the synopsis, preview for the comic and some links. The movie doesn't open for months, so there's plenty of time to add more before then.

George A. Romero's Land of the Dead
Over this isn't a bad site, but I was expecting a little more style than what we have.

Goal!
There's been a redesign of the site. This new version certainly is better, but I can't say I'm sold on the film.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
Not actually on the site, but the Daily Prophet has some new images that are worth checking out.

The Island
This site is bigger than I first thought, fully exploring the site you find weird clips and scenes. They don't give much substantive information, but do add to the overall mood. Likewise, the new subsite, Clone Watch, does the same.

Lila Says
No changes since the site first launched.

March of the Penguins
This is a great site for a documentary with plenty of information, strong image gallery and several video clips. After seeing this site I am much more excited about seeing the movie, and that's what these sites are supposed to do.

Saraband
Rather simple site with just the synopsis, image gallery and trailer. The rest of the usual information can be found in the press kit.

Rebound
The second game was added to the site, but it's not as fun as the first.

Red Eye
The placeholder site has added an image gallery and the full trailer.

Reel Paradise
This site has a huge amount of information, but unfortunately it doesn't have a very polished feel. For most movies this would be a huge downside, but for a documentary it's much more forgivable.

Rent
The trailer was added, but it's not a very effective trailer.

Rize
Not much has changed in the past couple of weeks. The site is very good for a documentary site and does an excellent job at selling the movie.

Stealth
The second game was added to the site, it's a 3-D combat game, but it's not as fun as the top down shooter. Speaking of which, my high score has been beaten, thoroughly beaten... by me. My high score is now nearly double the next highest player.

War of the Worlds
There's a new trailer, but I'm still not happy with the movie. I really loved the book, and I'm very concerned that they changed the story too much. (My fears may have been confirmed as apparently critics have been banned from the tonight's premiere.)

Wild Side
Typical Wellspring movie website.

Yes
No real changes for a while.
