DVD Rentals - Rambo Fights to the Top

June 10th, 2008

There were more new releases to reach the top 30 on the rental charts, including Rambo, which was the new number one rental with $8.55 million in revenue. However, that was the only new release in the top five. More...

DVD Releases for May 27, 2008

May 27th, 2008

There's a small section of big-name first run releases this week, but that doesn't mean there's little to buy. In fact, there are several DVDs that were contenders for DVD Pick of the week including some TV on DVD releases (Absolutely Fabulous - Absolutely Everything - Buy from Amazon and Degrassi The Next Generation - Season 6 - Buy from Amazon), classic cinema (The Thief of Bagdad - Criterion Collection - Buy from Amazon), foreign cinema (Come Drink With Me - Buy from Amazon and Heroes of the East - Buy from Amazon), as well as a collection of short films (The H.P. Lovecraft Collection - Volume 1 - Cool Air, Volume 2 - Dreams of Cthulhu, Volume 3 - Out of Mind, and Volume 4 - Pickman's Model). It would be nearly impossible to name just one of these releases as the DVD Pick of the Week, but The Thief of Bagdad - Criterion Collection - Buy from Amazon would likely please the most people. The film opens in the U.K. this weekend and should have little trouble reaching $200 million before long. More...

Movie Website Reviews for Weekend of January 18, 2008

January 19th, 2008

It's the busiest week of the year for new releases, which means it's the busiest week of the year for websites. However, while there is relatively high quantity, the quality is low. There are a few good sites, but there are more releases this week that are without sites and even none stand out as award-worthy. More...

Limited Releases have Bite

January 18th, 2008

There is a bigger list of limited releases this week than there has been in the past couple of weeks, but most seem like afterthoughts. There are a few that are certainly worth checking out, like Taxi to the Dark Side or Teeth, but none seem likely to have success at the box office. More...

November 11th, 2007

Surf's Up grew by 77% in France adding $3.44 million on 628 screens over the weekend for a total of $7.36 million in total. This growth was due to the Toussaint holiday while it was enough to lift the film's weekend box office to $5.84 million on 1996 screens in 32 markets for a total of $72.34 million. The film has yet to open in Scandinavia as well as Japan and should hit $100 million internationally before it is done, which is significantly more than the $58.87 million it earned domestically, but not enough to show a profit just yet.
