The Nun II

Last week’s box office winner, The Nun II has gained ground in theaters from its opening frame, adding 15 locations for a total of 3,743 theaters, finding itself as this week’s widest release. The horror sequel tallied up $32.6 million in its opening weekend and currently holds a six-day total of just over $40 million. That total brings The Conjuring franchise to a worldwide total of just over $2.2 billion from nine films, including its predecessor, The Nun, which delivered $363 million of that back in September of 2018. This week will see the debut of three new wide releases, including the latest in the mysteries of Hercule Poirot.

Beginning its theatrical run in 3,305 theaters, A Haunting in Venice follows a recently retired detective Poirot as he must catch a killer who has murdered a guest at a séance. The supernatural thriller is based on a novel by Agatha Christie and features a bevy of Hollywood talent, including Kyle Allen, Tina Fey, and Michelle Yeoh, while film veteran Kenneth Branagh portrays Detective Poirot, at the same time directing the feature. The movie serves as the sequel to 2022’s Death on the Nile, which earned a modest $45.6 million at the domestic box office.

Arriving in 848 venues this week is coming-of-age comedy, Camp Hideout. The movie follows the mischievous Noah, a foster kid who after choosing summer camp over juvenile hall, must band together with newly formed friends to rebuff “bad guys” who show up to take back what Noah stole from them. Ethan Drew plays the antagonist Noah, while legendary screen actor Christopher Lloyd plays the camp’s notorious owner, Falco.

Also new this week is the latest from Blue Fox Entertainment in the stop motion animation feature, The Inventor. Available in 700 movie houses, the film chronicles the life of famed Italian inventor, painter, and scientist, Leonardo da Vinci. Jim Capobianco directs from his own screenplay, while Stephen Fry voices the role of da Vinci.

Rounding out the top five this week is another newcomer from last week in My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3, showing up in 3,678 theaters this week. Next up is last week’s widest release with The Equalizer 3, still widely available in 3,528 locations. Occupying the fifth place spot this week is a familiar face, with Barbie, still hanging around in a solid 3,012 cinemas.

Releasing in limited venues this week is the western comedy, Outlaw Johnny Black. The movie follows the titular character as he vows to gun down the man who killed his father. The Michael Jai White-directed film will be accessible in 309 North American cinemas. Also opening in limited locations this week is Dumb Money. Beginning its multi-level release in eight locations, the biographical film features the group of rag-tag investors who banded together and may have changed Wall Street forever. The film will expand to approximately 200 theaters next week, before going nationwide on September 29.

Looking ahead to next week we see the debut of Expend4bles. Expected to arrive in about 3,200 cinemas, the fourth in the The Expendables franchise brings back the elite crew as they incorporate new styles and tactics, giving new meaning to the term “new blood”.
