Movie Website Reviews for Weekend of August 8, 2008

August 9, 2008

Not the best week for websites, but not the worst. While the best of the best, The Pineapple Express - Official Site, is not one of the best sites I've seen. But there are almost no movie sites that are missing or below acceptable levels.

Amal - Official Site
All of the usual features are here, but not much in the way style. It's polished and professional, like most sites on this week's list, but not overflowing with sound and animation.

Beautiful Losers - Official Site
A lot of information, and there's a style here, but little sound and animation. There are a couple of clips, but not enough to make it stand out.

Beer for My Horses - Official Site
Just the basics with a lot of effort put into helping spread the word about the movie. Sadly there's nothing on the site that helps sell the movie.

Bottle Shock - Official Site
The basics are here, minus the bios. There's a behind-the-scenes video clip, which would make a great DVD extra.

Elegy - Official Site
Just a re-direct to the studio site, which has the minimum features, as well as a few text-based interviews. However, there's nothing that stands out.

Hell Ride - Official Site
Just bios and the trailer. And the trailer doesn't sell the movie very well.

The Pineapple Express - Official Site
A fun site with the usual information (synopsis, cast & crew bios, image gallery, and trailer), as well as plenty of extras. Extras vary from the usual, like clips, to the more unique, like a soundboard, and even a game. There is also a section that is hidden behind age verification. Arg. Granted, what I can get to is the best on this week's list, but that age verification keeps screwing me over because I'm Canadian. I know you can check to see if someone is surfing from outside the states, and there has to be ways to let those who are not covered by the MPAA rules to see these sections. Even if it is just a second site with just the restricted content sitting on a server in Canada with a .ca domain.

Red - No Official Site
Nothing to review.

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 - Official Site
Plenty of video clips on this site including the usual trailers, however, there are also several interviews clips with the four main cast, newcomer Jesse Williams, Ann Brashares who wroter the original novel and more. There are also sub-sections on the book, the soundtrack, the original movie and more. A very nice site, but not an award-worthy site.

What We Do Is Secret - Official Site
All of the usual information here, but not much in terms of sound and animation. I was expecting a lot more, especially in terms of music since the film is about a punk band.
