Movie Website Updates for October 14 - October 20

October 20, 2005

During the past week promotional websites for several movies were launched and some older ones added additional content. Here the list of this week's releases, a couple of new sites and few updates, including this week's winner, Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang - Official Site.

Ask the Dust
The placeholder site was redesigned with a little bit of animation, but the main site is still marked coming soon.

Breakfast on Pluto
The site has all the usual features plus plenty of video clips. However, I don't like the way they done the bios as you have to scroll through one to get to the others. I much rather have menu options to chose which bio I want to read.

Casino Royale
The site launched with a brief animated introduction and a casting announcement. Since the movie hasn't even started filming yet, so there's plenty of time to add new content.

Charlotte's Web
So far the site just has cast list, image gallery and some downloads.

Clerk 2: The Passion of the Clerks
There are five more entries this week, including four clips. Well, three clips, one has since been pulled from the site for containing a spoiler they didn't want to get out.

Doom
The timeline was added to the site leaving clips, interviews and Basic Training marked coming soon. However, it is early in the day and I'll check back later to see if they have been added.

Dreamer: Inspired by a True Story
The activities section was added but it was mostly printable study guides and not games as I was hoping.

Emmanuel's Gift
It has been a while since the site was last on this list, but not much as changed since then.

Freedomland
Typical placeholder site with just the trailer. It could be good, but Samuel L. Jackson isn't known for his discerning taste in scripts. Hell, he's making a movie called Snakes on a Plane, (I thought it was a joke too, but apparently that's the real title).

Good Morning, Night
Typical Wellspring movie site.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
A new section on Mad-Eye Moody was added to the site this week, or perhaps it was last week, I may have missed it last time.

Jesus Is Magic
A bio for Sarah Silverman was added to the site, as were some downloads and press.

Kids in America
There were no changes in about a month. It's not a bad site, but it lacks style.

Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang
Fun site with a great sense of style, even if that style seems to be borrowed from Waiting...'s Official Site. The site has all the usual features, (synopsis, cast & crew bios, production notes, image gallery, trailer) as well as extras like tons of audio quotes. A lot of the audio quotes are supplied by Robert Downey, Jr as the site's narrator, but some are from the movie and other's make absolutely no sense. ("I prefer Gennaro's. But what do I know? I'm a bear!") It's an interesting combination or substance and style, with a heavy emphasis on the latter, but it works for the film. The only complaint I have is the clips are still marked coming soon, however, that's not enough to stop the film from winning the repetitive Weekly Website Award Award.

Last Holiday
The trailer is online, but it looks like it is full of cliches.

National Lampoon's Barely Legal
All the usual features are here plus a little bit of animation, but not nearly enough to sell the film.

North Country
There have been no changes in about a month.

Running Scared
Just the synopsis, image gallery and trailer so far. I can't say I found the trailer particularly intriguing, but there is some potential there.

Saw 2
Two more screens were added, but they're no longer effective. The mood has already been set and these are simply not interactive enough.

Shopgirl
Another site that hasn't changed in a while.

Stay
The only unusual feature on the site, (besides the podcast) is called Collaborative Subconscious Experiment, and while I can see what they were going for, it doesn't quite get there.

Stoned
The main section of this site helps the film stand out a bit with its sense of style, but the rest of the site is too average. Also, this is another site where the bios are in one big text block and not separated one for each person.

Walk the Line
The flash site is up, the first section containing all the usual features, the second describes some of Johnny Cash's exploits. The final section, Cash Family Tree, is marked coming soon, but if you click it, it will try to load and then hang.

X3
There's a short animated intro, and that's it. But the film doesn't come out for 8 months or so, so there's plenty of time for additions.

Yours, Mine and Ours
The second trailer is up, and well it does a marginally better job at selling, it is woefully inadequate.
