Weekend Estimates: Brave Opens High, Lincoln Crashes

June 24, 2012

Pixar will celebrate its 13th consecutive number one opening this weekend, with Brave cruising to first place with about $66.7 million, according to Disney's Sunday estimate. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, meanwhile, is DoA with only $16.5 million, not enough even for second place. That honor will go to Madagascar 3 with $20.2 million in its third weekend and a total over $157 million.

The weekend's other wide opener, Seeking a Friend for the End of the World is also looking soft, with $3.8 million in 1,625 theaters. With an average only a shade over $2,000, the film will likely struggle to hold on to theaters.

The limited release champion this week, by a huge margin, will be To Rome with Love. Woody Allen's latest outing is set for about $380,000 in just five theaters for a per screen average of $75,000. That's a shade less than the figure enjoyed by Midnight in Paris last year, but it's a great start by anybody's standards.
